Friday. Edale to Great Hucklow. Lovely venturing into deepest derbyshire
19 mile this morning to work.
It was warm, sweated big time.
65 miles out on the Fylde today. Went hard going out to the cafe at Forton as I set of 30 mins behind the club ride. Got there 5 mins before them as we took slightly different routes. 14 of us bimbled back through the lanes to Longridge and Whalley after several litres of tea. Very warm today, great sat on the terrace outside the cafe.
Sounds brilliant Ady...
I am looking forward to tonights chaingang with apprehension...
It is warm, the ride is furiously fast... I learnt last weekend from some guys that our chaingaing has the reputation to be bl**dy hard. That explains now why so far the longest I have managed to hold on to it is 7 minutes! Aiming for 10 minutes tonight, but secretly hoping to hang on till Usk, after which I will ride back on the Welsh National race route while they take the regular route...
True... but the pace is men's elite race pace... which is a bit fast for me, a vet 4th cat lady...
I am jealous of you, that you can go out for all those lovely rides during the day. Don't you have to work? I work 6-7 days a week, starting at 2pm on weekends, but it still means I rarely can ride for longer than 3 hours and there is never time for a cake stop :(
I do 2 weeks where I am more or less in work all the time and then 1 week off. Makes for inconsistent training, especially the bike as you can easily throw a quick run in between shifts, unlike a long ride. Hope these heavy showers stop, I am back on the bike for a ride tonight in deepest darkest Yorkshire!
Yup, likewise have to survive in 2-3hr windows of opportunity, some of which don't actually exist according to Mrs T:rolleyes:
Just under 2hrs of mayhem this afternoon, took the monster Col du Roc Blanche from Ponty(not as steep as death by golf course but much, much longer......), then Col du Llanwonno before canning it back. Great ride, though spoilt by the lack of ice creams:(
May i ask....what is a col.:o
It's the highest point of the climb the road goes over (not the top of the mountain)
Well I managed the 19 mile home from work but I'm knackered now.
Bloody warm in that sun for an 80 minutes.
Are you commuting by bike every day Stagger? Great way to improve cycle fitness and fits into the daily schedule without seeming to the other half that you are simply buggering off out on the bike again!
Not restrained by significant others I still only managed a meagre 53 minutes, although I did pack a mighty 16.25 miles into that, so the pace was fairly reasonable. Now I just need to maintain the pace, increase the distance, and add some hills in!
Death by golf course sounds fun!
90mins on mixed paths, tracks, back lanes etc around Bolton Abbey area. Me on mtb, Ady on his crosser. Thanks mate, what a nice evening!
Indeed, cracking evening in a glorious area.
As the evening was so cracking and I also am not restrained by significant others, I stayed out for about 3hours and 20 minues and rode 99.8 kms!
Hung onto the chaingang for longer than expected, at an average pace of 44 km/hr  I even took a few turns at the front! Then once dropped proceeded with my circuit of the Welsh Nationals I am racing on the 19th... went round once, then felt good and it was relativley early, i.e. no risk of running out of light... so went round again. To imporve my climbing I went up every hill full pelt in one gear bigger than I would normally use...
Completely knackered now... but loved it, a lovely evening!
I have a sports massage on 8 July, near said golf course, so I will attempt Death by Golfcourse before my massage
It's only a short little hill;)
I am afraid of hills...
where's it go from and to??
Pontypridd
Up!
ps Good ride Hann
"Virtually" or in close approximation to??
"virtually"... :D
careful Hann....you might be taking point on TdG at this rate!!
I am training for the Welsh nationals on 19 July... there is hoping that by then the exhaustion from TdG will be out of my legs...
I still can't climb :mad::(:o
It will be a nice sort of exhaustion though;)
Indeed, and what I did today on tired legs is proof that I can cope with it... But coach is still not talking to me... I do seem to have gained another one though... He volunteered on Sunday... :)
Interestingly, ever since I started doing my own training, I have been getting faster and stronger on the climbs
Most importantly, I have been enjoying my cycling more :) AND I have been racing better! I am now well in the bunch and able to participate in the sprint finish, rather than hanging off the back in a small sub bunch or even on my own... :D
I only ride 5 days a week now, however, the sessions are either longer or harder... no more boring up and down the A465, I am beasting up some hills in stead... I am afraid of hills, they need conquering!
Slave driver
I will see how the legs feel tomorrow morning... if they are too tired, I will run in the evening and cut my planned bikeride short... Nothing wrong with a brick session :D
And I thought you were going to bed too?
