Leg 1,Trail shoes or fells shoes?

Trail shoes for me - Inov8 315.
Did it in Walshies last year but they're too hard - there's quite a lot of hard track and some tarmac (even some good old fashioned cobbles) so a bit of cushion is welcome.
Don't know why but I have a sneaky feeling it might be a tad damp tomorrow.....
I'm doing 2. Must be someone else!! :D
er is this a bit late to be asking - but I seem to have been given two routes/descriptions - I've printed pikes' route map and thought i was doing that but then have been given some pages from the book - these describe a different route - which is the master route / description? - ie I'm doing leg 2 - do i go to stoodly pike - the book misses it out?????
Leg 2 is the best leg of the CWR!!!
Leg 3's not bad!
What is your favourite?
ok thanks MT - I'll use the pike route! - I expect I'll see brett tomorrow before leg 2 start so he can check I've got the right route!
I went round most of it today - and yes - I thought it was really good - even in the sleet - so I'll count myself lucky for getting leg 2 hey brett?
Chris is on leg one but we might come along to the finish. Maybe see you lot there. :)
bit slippy foggy and snowy up on leg 4 when we were there yesterday.... wrap up warm!
hope the pennine guys are okay , good luck guys
Just got back from leg one, hard to belive that by 9.25 my race was over.
Conditions were superb if wet underfoot, no wind, no rain , no clag. I ran round in thermal/vest and shorts, No hat or gloves needed today, although the weather was suppose to be getting cooler as the day progressed.
I was beasted round in 1.25.something. Not sure of position.
Only draw back is I lost a red windproof fleece glove somewhere in the last two miles of leg 1, if it gets handed in can I have it back please:o
Any news on finishing order yet?
1:The Mighty Horwich RMI
2: pudsey
3:salford
I think ( didn't stay for the finish!)
Well done Horwich! :D
Salford third!!! (Thats because I was behind the team!!!) It nearly ended pear shaped when I fell on the final down hill bit of leg 4 and stabbed myself in the neck with the batton. Rather pleased it wasn't sharp or else my neck would be even worse than it is now. Swollan and cut.
Our team did great, especially the lads on leg 3 who were drafted in this week.
Well done everyone.

First time for me, really enjoyed leg 6 but lost my favourite balaclava which I bought in NYC. Its black with silver or white emblem on forehead. about half way stage I think?
Great day out though, really lucky with weather too.
Very well organised, shame I didnt have time to try the pie&peas, very tempting.
Congratulations to Horwich, a cracking race between the two top teams ended with Horwich just pipping Pudsey by about 10 seconds! Salford 3rd, Bingley 4th, Dark Peak 5th. Bingley won the womens by a fair bit, Dark Peak won the Vets, Rossendale won the mixed.
Conditions remained ok for the day, a little bit bleak at changeover of 4/5, but fantastic race again. Thanks to the marshals, especially those we passed at Stoodley Pike, must have been cold stood up there! Roll on 2008...
Well done Horwich, is this result proof of the fact that if you want to beat the likes of P & B and Bingley, you've got to beat them at their own game, and that involves knowing the route off by heart and not making any errors?
How did the Dale go on anyone?
Probably a bit down on last year Danbert, but we won't know until the results come out in a few days. It was packed at the end.
Sounds like first two legs were strong, so was third but ~3 min down on last year as the young whippets were full of a cold (and it was XC yesterday).
On leg 4 I managed to fall in the same place as RR. Widdy game me 10 points for artistic content. We also did some unplanned wall and barbed wire fence climbing. Time was slower than I hoped for but we forgot to start our watches at the beginning.
Haven't heard from Leg 5 but it must have been heavy going with all that mud at the best of times.
Leg 6 - Mr Chairman was 6 min faster than last year, although the leg was a bit shorter.
full results yet?
or am i being a bit pushy ?
Thanks to whoever was involved in sorting out the route through the field down to Shibden Brook on leg 5, avoiding the treacherous flags on the path. Thoroughly enjoyed the race really well organised.
Well done to Rossendale who were first mixed team. We also got the 3rd fastest time in the last 10 years (all that were on the trophy!).
Let me extol the virtues of leg 2
Fairly early start, but no too bad! - Run up to Stoodley Pike, stunning, nice run across to the stables, where you have to walk - how refreshing is that!
Easy descent, followed by a nasty ascent, then the highlight - a cracking descent to the leisure centre.
Then it all gets better and better - reach the car, situate within 30 secs of a warm shower and cafe!
Drive back to Crag Vale, passing the delightful Robin Hood pub (well, when I say passing!!) decent beer and a real fire.
Thence home - and half the legs are either running or yet to start!
Couldn't have said it better myself, Brett!
I did route 1 but with an underpowered partner which was a bit of a shame; he's a good road runner but the hills killed him from what he told me. Still an enjoyable run with plenty of mud, which made it worth the getting up at ..... 4:30
Congrats to Horwich- 2 years running!
I did Leg 5 after waiting around at Wainstall for 1.5 hours very cold, but an excellent run until I met the slippery steps at Shibden Vale and went head over heals and landed on my backside. I shouldn't get to confident doing the descending no wonder my partner was taking is time should have reccied it before and read the forum more often. Great day and well organised race, but a few went awol on leg 5 in first 1 or 2 miles.
Well done to everyone especially the organisers, what a logistical nightmare it must be to bring this all together.
We don't help by not being aware of traffic.
Standing at Blackshaw Head, start of leg 4, lost count of the number of times a marshall shouted "Please move off the road".
What's wrong with Josephine public as well, 1st cottage after Horse? bridge at Midgehole, a "lady" was outside in her drive, being a friendly soul a wished her good day:) , her reply was less friendly, "I'll be there early tomorrow with my objection!!" TO WHAT? or is it T**T:eek:
