i am thinking of doing this. anyone know the route please?
Im guessing its a full kit jobby 2mz?
Any idea whether we can get a map of the route there?
Looking back I think I enjoyed it, however I reserve the right to change my mind once my legs start aching tonight/tomorrow!
Again, thinking about it i really feel like i enjoyed today.
Good to see Emmi, Daz H and thanyou very much to mister Peawet for a lift, Huw for the drink going up Jenkin Hill and Blackrod lad.
I set off aiming to stick with Daz and to beat 1:30, we both went off like silly buggers and with the sun nailing down on us i was struggling going up Jenkin Hill. Really got the calves working over-time and producing some heat!
Managed to keep daz within my sights but he had more to give than me and pulled away eventually.
People seems not to rate this race but i think its one of those races that you have to do once, and even though it certainly wasnt easy i'd like to try it again.
Certainly a 'hill' that should not be underestimated!
My heels are still hot though.
Cheers to the organisers, the marshalls and the groups of people out on the course offering encouragement really does help!
Mrs T has been out snapping again, link below:

Certainly a hot one today.
Thanks to the organisers and marshalls etc
Cheers
Al, presumably he'd built that lead by the time we crossed the A66!
I crossed him at that last gate; he beat me by 20 mins!
This was my first time on this one and I'm in mixed minds; can see why people don't like it given that we have to take the motorway route up (and down) so makes it more of a trail race than a fell race.
On the other hand not sure that you get much bigger up and downs (in England that is!).
Enjoyed it, longest FR to date, broke 1h30 and was just about in the top quartile. Got a stupid vest sun tan again (see why Ricky was bare topped) and no sun cream so shoulders hurting more than legs at the moment.
Thanks to organisers, marshalls, was it you Huw who gave me a sip from your water bottle - many thanks however it was.
A
Results up already

because i am comparitively rubbish at fell racing I decided to start near the front and run hard from the start. This meant i was overtaken by quite a few on the way up. I struggled somewhat in the heat (as I always do) and walked for longer periods than were strictly necessary. However, my plan was vindicated as i was in about 20th place by the summit and didnt lose much on the way down, perhaps 3 or 4 places I think. (i often lose 10 or more places on a big downhill if I am running midpack). Lost the will to push hard just prior to reaching the top car park but so it seems did everyone else around me - I think that was possibly due to the heat hitting us again in the lower altitude.
Overall a good race for me, not great but good - 3minutes faster than last year.
Didnt remember to look out for forumites though i did score a swig of water from Moo. Ta.
21st!!! chuffed with that from a fairly big field.
To come so high up i disagree that you arent very good, i think quite the opposite!!!!
Well done!
And your certainly not the only one who died towards the end:rolleyes:
Quite pleased with my position, thought i was outside the top thirty but turns out i got under in.
And first U20 according to the results!:)
Well done Al Fowler;)
Nice to see my good mate Gary Traviss in the results, he's like Al, always injured, but runs like the wind:rolleyes::D
Well done today Al. I wish i had thought to arrange to say hello but I got there with only 20mins to start and afterwards left without going back to the pavillion because it hurt my soles so much just to make it to the van from the finish field.
Your'e right, I'm obviously not rubbish at fellrunning but if this had been a road race i would expect to have been maybe 10 places higher so thats what i was meaning.
Well done all yesterday
Quite hot and was amused to seee everyone taking there shoes off at the end to cool the feet down
AL you ran well, must have been that water I gave you and I had a little word with Huw to give you a drink
Thanks to Huw and Sarah for support and liquid on the hill , much appreciated.
we did indeed have a battle going up and what struck me at the end was how I have to do 40/50miles a week whilst you can do that time on not much training.
Age i think:o. I remember those days well
Anyway I enjoyed it. Good to see a few people i know.
Emma had a good run as well, well done emma
I was crap coming down the grass bit in road shoes and in the light of morning am still thinking i made the wrong choice.
Had a good run in with Richard B from matlock but we was both eclipsed by Steve from Dark Peak
In the lakes and beaten by local clubs:rolleyes:.
Run of the day has to be Jo Waites who I dont think actually walked.
Oh not forgetting Coach Clamp who stormed up as well.
Still that time of Kenny's amazes me.
I would have loved to have witnessed him descending. Must have been a joy to have seen a fell runner descending like that.
Chris Steele, second going up Skiddaw - then disappeared.
Any sign of any more pics? - There was that guy with the big lense on Jenkin Hill.
Skiddaw Pics on Jenkin Hill ;
Hope to have them up this week , cant fit everyone on but I,ve got everyone on file , just get me your number if your not there.

Thanks Steve . Some great photo's .
Woke this morning to stiff legs and a slow climb up/down the stairs, the descent finally taking it's toll on me.
However did track session tonight and managed some really good times, well really good for ME! Maybe training sessions after a big race are my way forward! :D
I know this isn't for about a month yet, but has anyone got a route map for it? I can't find one on Keswick AC's website.
Oh give over Fellrunner - you know it just goes up!
But he's not http://forum.fellrunner.org.uk/membe...141-Fellrunner which is who WH mistook him for!!
Skiddaw, it's an up and down ;-) Well marked no navigation skills required. I'll be making the trip up again.
Starts by the cricket club, leg it out of the park and across the road and into the woods around latrig. You basically skirt round the edge of latrig and eventually hit the memorial thing at the base of skidaw.
Its then screaming calfs all the way up the main tourist path to the summit, then fire back down.
On the way back down though, you cut off the tourist path to miss out the zig-zags....its flagged and marshalled so you dont need to worry where/when to turn off the path.
Bit of advise that I think daz h would agree with....take the run out to the base of skiddaw steady. We were racing like sill gits straight away and I reckon it affected our climbs.
Am in the lakes with running club this weekend so might do this (Borrowdale reccy on the Sat). Suprised this race is not higher up the order of things on the forum, is this not a popular race? Or is the lack of postings because it's straightforward out and back; up and down (abiet with a mighty lump inbetween)? If I do do it, you'll find me at the back in a Dark Peak vest (crying probably).
Im not sure really.
Theres still a good number doing it and there's usually a couple of top runners doing it - Ricky Lightfoot whopped everyone last year as well as Jo Waites.
I think alot of people shun it for the 'motorway' like path up skiddaw but come on, its an absolute classic of the lakes races.
Thanks Al. I like your spirit.
