Dilemma time...
Contemplated entering when entries originally opened but decided against it. I e-mailed the organiser today who has said he has a spare place. Is it totally crazy to take the place 3 days beforehand without any reccing of the infamous Fleetmoss section??? Genuine replies only please!!
I know the Ingleborough, Whernside,Dent, Blea, Arten Gill to Dodd Fell bit and then the Cray to finish bit. Really really not sure what to do...
I did it in 2009 without any reccies, my mate who ran with me had done the first 30m and reccied the end bit, fleet moss we followed a pack of runners through. You've more idea of the area than i did and your fit enough to do it, so i'd say go for it Twinkletoes and good luck if you do;)Quote:

Oh Steve and Old Un thank you - scary as I hate been unprepared! Just printed off the cps and refreshment list so will study and then ring the organiser tomorrow morning. The roadside refreshments look fairly substantial, so apart from the 300g emergency food that we aren't allowed to touch, did you carry much yourselves previously?
i havnt done it before so in at the deep end for me too tt but lifes for living :thumbup: i'll be carrying a few mini mars bars and a bag of haribos and the such, i usually fill the pouch on my hip belt but arnt shy of eating free cp food. you can always tag on to someone for a chat and company i usually do :)
Just carried 300g of mars bars taped together and a 1 litre bottle topped up at checkpoints, the food at checkpoints was enough to get me round. I'd only ever ran 40m before and that was only once. The atmosphere and camaraderie of the day did the rest. It's a great event, enjoy:wink:Quote:

I did it in 2010 with no recees but a bit of map gazing beforehand. It was good weather but I do not think I was more than 30 mins out of sight of other runners in the whole thing. I'd go for it.
If I make it I won't be as fast as I had hoped so might run some of i with you, if I can keep up. Can now put full weight on L foot and sort of go up on toes on that foot!
You certainly can, except this year it's not the main hall, it's the sports hall, which might possibly be a bit quieter. It won't be any softer though.Quote:

No, driving up and back to Threshfield from Leeds on Friday night for kit check, then going straight to Ingleton on Saturday morning. Seems to be the solution that gives me most time in bed.Quote:

Basically:
If you are checking in on the Friday night at Threshfield then travelling independently to Ingleton Saturday morning YOU NEED TO LET THE FELLSMAN KNOW VIA EMAIL ASAP THAT YOU WILL BE COLLECTING YOUR TALLY ON SATURDAY MORNING AT INGLETON AND DO NOT REQUIRE THE BUS FACILITY FROM THRESHFIELD ON SATURDAY MORNING. If you are only collecting your tally from Ingleton, having kit checked on Friday night at Threshfield, you should arrive by 8.30 am Saturday morning.
They will ask you on Friday when you kit check but the sooner they know numbers for buses the better- will save over ordering and thus money!
Twinkletoes, good on you-you will breeze round it and if anyone is an expert on the area it's you! See you on Saturday!

For a number of years I've been using THIS weather forecasting service.
It's actually run as part of the meteorology dept of Leeds University, by a group of outdoor enthusiasts.
They are able to use the most up to date forecasting techniques and tailor their forecasts to specific events, making them extremely accurate.
I have found that I'm able to make spot on decisions on what equipment to take on events.
Best forecast I've ever come across.
Haha. I don't buy that forecast at all, especially the fantastically grim tone of it. As for temperatures dropping to freezing 'creating treacherous conditions underfoot', what the feck does that mean? Daggers of ice sticking out of the ground? Take your ice skates along? Somebody is having a little joke. If temperatures reach freezing there might be a frost, making the puddles a teeny weeny bit colder, end of.Quote:

That's the good thing about crap weather as far as I'm concerned; if it's cold/wet enough from the start to wear the tights and waterproof then I don't have to try and squeeze them into my miniscule TNF pack and I don't have to get changed later.Quote:

Ouch!! Depends how badly it hurts. I tore two ligaments in mine last summer and there was no way I could run on it, let alone over tussocky grass and bogs even if I'd dosed myself up on painkillers, it just wouldn't have held up and I honestly wanted to run on it. I suspect there are people here that will tell you to go for it but I'm concerned that you'll tear it more. If you do go for it...try wearing some kind of bracing at least.
