Is anyone heading over to this from West Yorks, or anywhere vaguely around there and could I possibly get a lift, either from a railway station or somewhere else I can reasonably get to on public transport. I'd very much appreciate it.
cheers

Weather forecast for this is getting better according to Metcheck, the rain is getting moved further and further back into saturday and they are forecasting patchy cloud, still be boggy though, fingers crossed.
I did it 2 years ago for the first time - low cloud and drizzle. Couldn't see a dicky bird on the Calf.
I did it last year - set of in bright sunshine. Got to the top of Arant Haw and could see the grey pile of crap coming up Morecambe Bay.
By CP3, it started raining and within 5 minutes it was driving wind & rain and again low cloud for the rest of the race.
I'm expecting more of the same :(
Anything else will be a pleasant surprise.
Is there water at the CP's or do you have to carry all water?
Anyone know what the CP grid references are?

Check out Post 67 for the map.
Water is fine. Take a bottle to fill up on the way round.
Best water sources are at the beck below CP2, at CP3, Langdale (between CP3&4) and the last spot is at CP4.
There are a few others as well, but bear in mind that CP4 is probably the last reasonable spot.
There were a few gullies crossing the path after CP4 but unless it was raining i wouldn't use them.
Is it mandatory to follow the path after the farm gate at the start? During my recce i followed a clearing in the gorse which leads straight up the hillside (steep) and then i went right at the top to meet the path by a small stream, this cut a corner which the Harvey map instructed me to follow round the long way. I'm only asking in case i could get disqualified for cutting the corner.
I think that you can go CP - CP any route that you want - unless it is flagged.
However, it sounds like Harvey's is wrong. "Your" route is the race route.
As you pass through the gate, bear up and left, through the gorse, then straight up a steep bank, eventually cutting right to pick up the track to Arant Haw.
Although getting through that narrow opening in the gorse isn't that straight forward with 200 - 300 runners;)
Forget my wishfully optimistic weather predictions, according to the beeb it's pissing it down for most of the day. Looks like this event is going to require a good helping of britishness.
Weather:rolleyes: It's all part of growing up and being british;)
I've just seen a team mates map and he reckons the first checkpoint last year was the start and the race didn't visit Arant Haw on the outward leg.
The map posted previously (although that was two years ago) did have a checkpoint at Arant Haw (and Pete Blands map here does by the look of it):

Anyone know? It doesn't matter too much, but I'm pretty sure that it will go up Arant Haw, its too good a checkpoint not to.
Smashing, thought so. Thanks!
Belting Place to Run, It has been on my list for a long time..Hoping to be greeted by belting weather !
You'll have a record breaking first half of the race with gusts forecast to 80 mph! Coming back might be a tad tricky though.

Good luck everyone for tomorrow
Arghhh!! Looks like I made a good choice for my first AL race
Have a good run today folks. Will be on the course with jelly babies, water, cookies. Hope it's not a wet one.
Yes Good Luck everyone - gutted that I can't make it.
Bad nights sleep, stomach cramps - feeling a bit off this morning. I can't risk getting round to CP3 / 4 and having problems. Not fair on the organisers.
Big thanks to all the marshals who had to endure some fairly wet and windy conditions.
Global warming my aristotle, thought my fingers were going to drop off on the Calf. Wasn't moving too fast at that point either due to overcooking it a bit on the way up and began to feel very negative and started swearing a lot.
For me the weather slowly ate away at my enjoyment of the event, it was my first AL and was hoping for easier conditions. Made a couple of novice errors, tried to jump the river at the base of Hazel hill but missed the opposite bank and strained something in the back of my knee which came back to haunt me around Calders, shouldn't take risks like that. Also fell hard on my knee trying to avoid peaty puddles, again-no need.
Witton Park; thought you didn't make it i couldn't see anyone in maroon tees at the finish, although my eyes weren't really working very well after being battered by raindrops doing 60mph on the Calf!
Cheers DT, good to see you today Manhar, didn't see you out on the course though, can't blame you for that, weather was a bit grim. However, had a storming run 54th place in 3h 2m 4s, chuffed with that, even managed to run all the way up the calf. A good day out with good company, cheers to John Broxap and all his helpers and marshalls. And a big thanks to the runner who picked up my waterproof after it slipped from the bungee on my bumbag, had a rucsac with some gear in stolen last week so nice not to lose that, cheers mate;)
An excellent course i must say!!!!!
Excellent day out that, extreme but really enjoyed it. The Mudclaws were a lucky choice with all that mud and slippery grass. Made it 5,300ft of ascent.
So how many of you got back to comments like: "Oh it was a lovely warm day here." At least we had been forewarned and I guess the South-Westerly helped a bit on the navigation front coming back from the Calf - If it wasn't blowing straight in your face, then you'd probably gone wrong! Can't thank the marshals and organisers enough; particularly those enduring the worst of the weather at high level. Another brown vest mass turn-out. You'd have thought that it was a local race for us! Can we have nice weather next year please so's I can take my camera? I had to run much quicker today than I'm used to and it wasn't very pleasant.:D
Well done Merry - wondered where you got to.
Was sprawled out in front of the tent at the Calf checkpoint. For some idiotic reason on my part got there a good 50 mins before the 1st runners came through. Spend that time trying not to freeze my delicate bits of - glad to get back to the finish.
Agree that weather wasn't the best - suppose you have to expect this in this part of world. I had a few self-pitying moments from 6 miles, though I cheered up massively soon after Calder when visibility returned. I also made rookie errors; wore roclites which weren't really upto job on the steep, grassy descents and caused me to slip on a rock in stream at CP3. Bashed my right knee so it now has a dull ache to match the one in left knee I got yesterday at Burnsall. Next time, mudclaws or equivelently agressively gripped shoes are way to go I guess? I even had mudclaws in bag but thought roclites would be more "comfy" over 14m. :o
Agreed again the marshalls were saints! Cheers manhar and the team. And apparently it was lovely and warm on the far flatter east coast from where I travelled.
Overall I really enjoyed that when not fearing for my life on the muddy contouring paths or desents - I know, I'm still a wimp at this standard of race. Route was fantastic and awesome views when views were viewable.
I'll be back, targeting 3 hours :D
Apparently this is what the Sedbergh hills look like
Anyone know when the results are due to be posted? I was so chilly and wet i went straight back to my car and cranked the heating up. Should really start bringing a change of clothes, the drivers' seat is wet now.
