Any news on the camper van?
Hi to all.Entered my 1st fell races this summer and enjoyed them all. Will be entering this race for the 1st time,any1 got any tips?cheers,Dave:)
Just enjoy yourself! It's a fantastic little race, one of my favourites in the calendar. Will be there on the 12th with a group from Settle, can't wait.
My tips would be - don't go at it too hard, it's short but feels a lot longer, and arrive early to get a good spot, just roadside parking.
This is a great race - always used to be my favourite short race.
There'll be a decent-sized crowd from Pennine there as it's in our club championship. I'll be out on the course somewhere with my daughter taking photos and giving encouragement.
As for tips - run hard on the uphills then even harder on the downhills. Take a map (and the knowledge of how to use it) - quite a few went wrong in the mist in 2005.
Good pictures,looking forward to sat:D
Weathers looking ok for tomorrow.
Just to warn all of you guys with weak hearts...One of our younger, prettier members is hosting her hen day at the Dunnerdale. Lots of crazy Ambleside chicks running in an assortment of mini kilts (the bride to be is Scottish), veils, L plates and other hennish, scottish paraphanalia and probably reverting to silly, loud giggly behaviour. Planning on taking over the pub afterwards too so....you have been warned!
great race great weather and great pies
only bad thing was that i could not keep up with the hens who were running like spring chickens!!
thanks to the marshalls and organisers for a great race
Brilliant race, thanks to marshalls and organisers. The weather was superb, overheating in a vest in mid November!
Enjoyed the meat pie & tea after, but enjoyed the five minute improvement on last year even more.
Did 'The Hat' enjoy it?
great race thanks to all, extra bar staff innt blacksmiths wouldnt hurt tho, long que for my well earned pint but it was worth the wait!
Beat a couple of folk who i don't usually get near today, i must be getting better or something. Had to dash straight off at the end and make a 100 mile detour to return some doorkeys, didn't have chance to get a pie. Cheers organisers and marshals, what a classic race. Mmm, pie.
Cheers to the nice lass who lent me her phone if you're on here.
What a great day! Great organisation, great route, great weather and great pies (sorry Mr Brightside). Only downside was falling a over t into a bog after checkpoint 2. I am sure all the muck slowed me down!
It was a fantastic day. I sank upto my thighs in a bog between Stickle Pike and Great Stickle. That'll teach me to stray from the path. I mad sprint for the finish line, going neck and neck with another chap and unfortunately he just managed to pull ahead in the last fraction of a second. A good dramatic end to a fantastic race. Bring in next year.Mike.
Great race - I also had bog trouble! Results are here.
Some piccies here from Mrs T
Tom, Mrs T is really sorry she missed you on the photos, you came down the hill to fast and did not give her enough time to get set up. Well done any way.
Danny was a bit slower so she had time !!!! ha ha

Crikey. There's even a picture of me on there (pic 154)... though I don't look particularly happy. I put it down to the fact that it was nearing the end of the race and I was a wee bit sore. ;)
Dunnerdale, Wadsworth and the FRA dinner in the evening - a brief summary

A video of the race is now on my blog
I will try to, MrB. For these last few, while I've been videoing, it's been hard not shouting at people as they run past, especially when I know them and they're team-mates. I've managed to refrain as I've wanted to capture the sound atmosphere of the race on video. However, I've now realised that the only sound you get is the wind. So, I've vowed to put music over it from Dunnerdale onwards. That way I can heckle and shout at people like I normally do. Win win eh!? :)
I took a few photos whilst jogging around the course with the Pennine Juniors. Hope we didn't get in anyone's way.
I'll be there next year.I'll be at Kirkby Moor next week too if you're there. I was out on the recce of the route with the dog this morning and it's a good one. Rather boggy underfoot. I seem to have a knack for finding them. Had to hose both myself and the pup down when I got home. :)
Entered the MMM just down the road the day after so will probably do this..
Is it rocky or all grass/bog, only seen geoff's pictures. Is there a map? The one linked earlier in the thread wasn't working...
Also any recommended campsites? I've only seen Turner Hall nearby?
Turner Hall is good, one of the best sites in the Lakes.
The route is a mixture of everything but mostly grass/bog - the section over Dow Crag is rocky as is the descent from White Pike. I think Harvey's do a map of all the classic Lakeland races.
