Yeah, I've been keeping an eye on the website and see its bin updated, entries accepted from early January.
But does seem a tad steep at £16. I thought after last years £20 it might revert to the previous years £8 or thereabouts, but nevermind, it seems like a bargain compared to what I'm paying to do Tough Guy end of January.:D
Just wondered, does this race attract a better standard of runner than say the 'average' fell race ?
I've wanted to do this since completing the 3P's cx race this summer, and have gone about doing some AM's and BL's all of which I've managed to finish in the top half of the field.
i recently did the Roaches 15miler in a tad under 3 hours
But looking at the cut off's at Ribble head ( 2hrs 10 at 12 ish miles ? ) and Ship Inn and the results it appears that if similar cut off's were in place at the fell events I've already done 1/2 of the field would be DQ'ed ?
thanks for any replies
It attracts large numbers so bigger chance of more 'elite' runners but if you are managing the top 1/2 of the field in your previous FR's then the cut offs should not be an issue. The 1st climb is very runnable and the space between to the 1st cut off point is flat and fast(ish) so I would say you would be fine.
On line entry will open on Monday 12th Jan 2009.
Missing this one in 2009. The online entry system starts bang in the middle of my hols anyway when I'll be away from a PC anyway.
I did Holme Moss 2007 in about 4.15 and Langdale 2007 in just over 4 hours. My best time for 2008 was 46.10 for an off road 10K (Newby Hall). Be honest need I bother applying for the Three Peaks? The cut offs look to me as if they want people who can do 10K in about 42 mins. I've just had the flu but before that felt I was improving especially since joining a running club. Terrain, navigation, nor distance are problems but if I'm not going to have the speed. If any body thinks I've got a chance of training up to the standard throw me a line otherwise I'd appreciate being put out of my misery.:(
Guick you'll be surprised about the cut offs; the thing about the 3 peaks is that after Pen y Ghent right from the off there's a huge largely down hill run in to Ribblehead making the first 12 miles quite fast. You'll easily make the first cut. Getting up Whernside and through almost certain crippling cramp at the top is the real hurdle to making the second cut at Chapel le Dale rather than anything else. If your wheels do fall off it'll be after Chapel le Dale on the way up Ingleborough but by then there are no more time cuts to worry about.....
you did Holme Moss and Langdale a damn sight faster then me, but I've done the Three Peaks about 5 times and never struggled with the cut-offs so get yourself entered.:D
You've got loads of time to train up GD. :)
I'd only been running a year and only had three weeks to train last year as I got a last minute place.
Although my finish time wasn't good in comparison to lots of others on here, I was really pleased that I just finished it and there were still plenty people behind me!
You'll be fine, if you want to do it...get yourself entered!!!! ;)
It was my first PPP last year - I did 1:46 to Ribblehead and finished 4:39. I had a bad Whernside!
Go to Horton - run the route to Ribblehead at what you see as a decent pace - you'll be surprised I think.
You'd have to really take your time to be longer than 2:10.
You can then either run back to Horton or catch a train.
We did a recce on Friday - 11 of us - steady up Pen-y-Ghent - 5 minutes rest at the top.
Another brief rest as we crossed the Ribble at about 9 mile and then again on the main road at about 9.5 mile just before Ribblehead as a few were heading back.
I got to Ribblehead in 2 hours - about 10 minutes rest in there.
I would guess that you would get around the race in 4:30 to 5:00 and be within the cut off at Pen-y-Ghent by 10 -15 minutes.
Give it a go.
My first 3p last year. Finished in a slightly disappointing 5:01. You shouldn't have any probe at ribblehead, just take your time. I was 10 min under at chapel me dale.
Give it a go.
Go for it!
I did it last year, and got to Ribblehead with 8 mins to spare and Hill Inn with 2 and a half mins in hand. I got round in 5.22 and was absolutely delighted because for the whole time training I was never ever 100 per cent certain I would make the Hill Inn cut-off.
The 3P is one of the best things I've ever done.
(My best 10k time was 53 mins on the road.)
Many thanks everyone. I'm going to have a go. It'll give me a reason to get fit!
Can't see a thread on this yet so here goes
I'm in, anyone else? Don't reckon it will fill as fast this year.
Just entered - I don't think it will fill either, but wouldn't be surpised to see 300 by end of today!
I've entered :)
171 entries and I am now entered in the race :D
Does anyone know if you've entered, paid and fullfill the prerequisite entry requirements that you're accpeted and definately in, or is there a selection process for the applicants that is yet to be done ?
Cheers
im in, 37th entry, child not sleeping through night had at least one good point
Provided you've met the pre requisite entry requirements & paid you are in - 1st come 1st served - there was a minor ;) talking point about this last point last year.............cue.........can anyone see a hornets nest stirring.
I'm in by the way - s'pose I better start training :)
Hi all,
I'd love to do this race but am worried I'm not able to (ability and entry). I've only done 1 qualifying FRA race (plus other shorter fell races) but have completed 2 road marathons in 2008 in approx 3:40 (female). Is that good enough to enter? Should it translate to ability to meet the cut offs?
* Completed the Three Peaks Race in 2006, 2007 or 2008.
* Since Jan 1st 2007 completed at least two different Medium A, Long A or Long B Fell Races. Note – only FRA definitions apply, LDWA events are not accepted.
* Runners who do not fulfil either of these requirements but who have endurance running experience should submit details on their entry - listing endurance races completed 2007 and 2008 eg road marathon within 3hrs 20mins.O.M.M. Elite A,B,Class or equivalent.
* Overseas competitors must submit full details of experience.
* PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT AN ENTRY UNLESS YOU MEET THESE REQUIREMENTS
I think on the above criteria you might be struggling to qualify. Perhaps you could ring the organisers and ask.
I entered at half midnight and there was already about 30 entries by that time.
Dru, I think the organisers may not have considered ladies when stipulating 3-20 marathon time. 3-40 road marathon for a lady is highly respectable I think. There is space in the entry form to write quite a lot of text about your experience. Point out you are female, and your age may be relevant too.
But like Witton Park says, a second AM is a sure route to acceptance.
Whether you will beat the cut offs I don't know. Why not get out there for a recce and find out. Even if you are not at race fitness you'll be able to make an assessment of your speed relative to the cut offs.
Well, I just spoke to the organiser and confirmed that the 3:20 marathon time applies to both men and women. I can enter another qualifying race as suggested and may well do that (seems a bit wonky that I could walk round a qualifying race and that would have more weight than a marathon!)
Dru, I think 3-40 is about what I'd do a marathon in and I ran round PPP in 4-55 last year not really racing flat out. I don't think getting through the cut-offs would be an issue for you. Bear in mind too places get swapped near the time as runners find they can't do the race ;)
