Had to change some holiday plans and will be in the Lakes towards the end of the week. I was wondering if anyone had a borrowdale place I can use. I have done the race before a few times but didn't think I would be around to do it this year!

Reccie in 3hrs...defo a tall story. Must have missed out Scafell Pike!
Ran round the full route the other day in perfect conditions in 3.45 with the hammer down and my best time is 3hrs in the race! (I'm not doing the race this year, by the way.)
Come on, then...own up, who's been building cairns on the descent off Gable?!
Another spare entry going - PM me if wanted.
We have arranged to have a couple of local sports therapists at the end of the race who will be offering (for a small donation to a local charity) post-race leg massages.....Just thought some of you that have entered may be interested!!

Good luck Nightingale,
I'm hoping to improve on my position from last year.
But it's not looking too promising after I was nearly last at Wasdale.:o
I have managed to bruise the ball of my left foot. I know this is not dramatic or anything but with Borrowdale looming on Saturday, I would really appreciate any tips to mitigate the pain and keep my PB hopes alive. i have inserted some comfort insoles into my X-Talons and these seeme dto work ok at Cracken Edge last night, but it was still painful and I slowed up a bit. Help!!
just out of interest is the mad scree run off Scarfell pike hard to find ? do most people go that way ?
About 20degrees from the summit did it for us, in the mist reccying last Sunday. The top of the gully's pretty broad - and from memory starts to drop into the scree shoot proper about 100m or so off the summit. Forecast looks pretty "testing" for saturday eh!! Hope it improves.
Had a great race just managed to get under 4 hours by 25 seconds result ! Back at youth hostal for power nap and then off for BEER !!!!!
my mate was feeling good till he fell over on scarfell pike, his little finger is all bent out of shape.A trip to hospital to get it bent back sadly.Well done everyone.

Excellent day out today. After the debacle ov Wasdale, got every line spot on. Now on 12hr night shift, happy days! Many thanks to the organisers and marshalls who make this event wot it is!!
I planned to build up to entering this race next year but entered at the last minute knowing 3 others weren't coming so was able to sub. I hadn't trained for this and didn't think I would get all the way round. As expected I didn't get all the way round and dropped out at windy gap knowing I wouldn't make it to Honister before the cut-off. What a tough race with slippy conditions. Certainly gave me a taster for next year!
Thanks to the organisers and Mountain rescue guys.
Peawet, I sympathise. I didn't make the cut off. :o
I started the race and just didn't feel right for the first two hours. Navigation was not a problem I just couldn't get going. It was only when I got some food down me that I started to feel normal. I missed the cut off by 4 minutes. Absolutely gutted. It has however probably given me the kick up the arse I need to shed some excess pounds and sort myself out for these longer runs that I want to get into.
Thanks to the organisers and marshalls. And, well done to everybody that ran yesterday. I WILL be back next year.
Not a tall tale!
So Scott came 6th, 3:11, he was third for a while but fell a couple times :( He would have ran better if the conditions had been better cuz he has done before, but he will win it in one of the coming years i have faith in my friend!
they said his name wrong at prize giving too :( ahh
I liked the day even though id dint race, was good, congrats all you runners :-)
I must also thank the kind lady (who's husband was running in the race) that gave three of us a lift back from Honister. A very very kind thing to do. I don't know her name, but, as my mate said to her in the car "she secured her place in heaven".
Peawet and Nightingale -My sympathies. I had the same problem last year, arrived at the bottom of Green Gable with only just over an hour to spare and knew that there wasn't a cat in hells chance of reaching Honister in time, so retired.
Came back this year only slightly fitter but determined to finish. Nearly blew it with some poor navigation after Green Gable, losing about 10 minutes. Arrived at Honister with 2 minutes to spare, one of the last. Had pushed so hard to meet the cut-off, had nothing left. Managed to walk, amble, pretend to run, to get to the finish, not last, but only by one.
Thanks again to the organisers, marshalls, helpers, etc. Especially to the timekeepers for waiting around to see me in.
Many thanks for an enjoyable day out. I last did this in 1987 in just under 4 hours and I somehow have forgotten every single detail of the course since then. I fancied the intervening 23 years would slow me down by about half an hour and was rather disappointed to limp home in 5:13 having bonked after Honister. Must pull the old finger out!
Many thanks to the organisers and marshalls of, what is in my opinion, the best race in the calendar.
Having done this every year since 2006 (I only started running in 2005 and didn't have the bottle then!)
I was made up to get a PB this year, though just missed out on a sub 5hr race. Can't wait til next year, have booked my room at the hotel already:D

My friends little finger after a fall on Scarfell pike.Dislocated at both knuckles impressive !
Ouch! I've got two toes that look like that.
Didn't make the start line, had some good training runs the week before round Causey Pike then went and fell over the night before walking the dog on Barrow (wrong footwear choice) twisted my knee, back and calf:thunbdown:
Well done to all who ran and especially Mr. Booth who's wife told me he wasn't fit at the mo!
Got up to Honister to see the race come through:)
Brilliantly organized race as usual. The borrow dale race is one of the best races on the calendar. I faired okay but didn't quite get the right line after bessyboot. An interesting note for those runners that descend well on rock was that the runners who were about 20 seconds in front of me at gable summit were slower than me down to windy gap. They took the grassy line and trod and I took the nightmare tourist path. I'm starting to think there isn't much in it to be honest. There was a sprightly chap heading down it when I passed who gave some nice words of encouragement. Thanks to Jon broxap, nice one. Also thanks to merry legs for a shout at honister. Decided i wouldn't follow Gavin bland down to hoister and that I would choose my own line down.
Guess who arrived at the quarry first. I was at least 40 seconds behind him starting the climb up Dale head

Big thanks to all who helped in the organisation of this race, marshalls, sponsors, and all associated with the race, etc, a great day finished in fine Borrowdale Sunshine.
What a race !!
I now realise I need to train harder for next year...!
It was the first time i truly expereinced a 'bonk'; I ran fine to the summit of Scafell Pike but began to feel sick on the aschent of Great Gable, slowing me down dramatically for the stretch to Honister Pass. By the time I got there, I was within 25 mins of the cut-off and seriously considered retiring due to the way I felt... Thankfully, and in spite of the tank being completely empty, and probably due to the flpjack given to me by fellow Cambridge Harrier Pat Austin (who couldn't race due injury,) somewhere deep within me the fighting spirit pushed me very slowly up Dale Head and helped me hobble down the other side to the finish line.
If i looked anything like i felt when I crossed the finish line, i was probably sheet white and wobbly :o
I was very pleased to finish, even if somewhat slower than expected, and know that my nav was fine, just need to do more long in-terrain training runds for next year.
Well done to all finishers, a big thanks to the organisers and especially the marshals on those claggy & cold summits. Commiserations to those who retired or got cut off, including 2 of my fellow club runners - one of whom went a bit wrong and ended up on Kirk Fell !
Back next year :D
Tough luck Nightingale, hope you make it next year. I felt I had a better run than last year, didn't bonk on Gable this time, but managed to finish 2 minutes slower:confused:.
3 silly navigational errors (including a loop around Broad Crag), and 2 bouts of cramp might have had something to do with that. Oh and then there's my total inability to descend at anything other than a snails pace on wet rock.:o well here's to next year.
I agree, well done to all who work hard to make this event what it is.:)
Think i was with you on Broad Crag. What were we doing? Managed to pick it up and get a pb though, but can't help thinking what might have been time-wise. Buggered up the glaramara bit, broad crag and the line to brandreth. Reckon that cost me a sub four hour finish, but loved the race. Thanks to Scoffer and co :)
What a small world. Your friend (Peter) who had a wander up Kirk Fell will tell you he had company for the unexpected excursion...ME!!
What a pair of numpties we are :o
Anyway, tell him Trev said hello and hopefully next time we meet we'll be going the right way.
Yesterday was a good example of why you shouldnt take on Borrowdale without the appropriate amount of training. Injury since Easter prevented me getting in any long training runs - I hadnt raced longer than 2 hrs since Langdale last yr. This is the result - a PW in just over 5 hrs - over 1 hr slower than my PB and about 45 mins slower than last yr.
