Never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever again! :D
Did 4-55 last year on debut and hoped to chip perhaps 5-10mins this year. Only made Hill Inn cut-off by 8mins after feeling dreadful up Whernside followed by outbreak of severe cramp. Ran reasonably well for me off Ingleborough after walking up. Camaderie at the back was fantastic mind and met some lovely people. Well done merrylegs and Tussockface! ;)
Well done to finish. I think i saw you at the bottom of the climb to Whernside, not looking in love with the game as they say, so great effort to get round.
I took the kids up for a bit of a walk from Ribblehead and will try to get my pics on later.
The camera couldn't handle Merrylegs' dayglo vest though, at the finish.
Some more photos from today
Hope i did'nt miss anybody !!

Enjoy
Well done PP and all the Clayton runners.
Steady away today.......74th at first checkpoint, 46th at finish, big fall on last descent though, now I know why people shave there legs as I try and peel me plasters off.......
Cracking day for it.
had a series of bad luck but overall very happy with completing a tough run. ouch.
Great atmosphere, just gets better.
Good to see so many forumites.
Need sleep...
Me or Mudlugger:confused:
Had a good un today, never ran the race before and my fastest time round the walkers route was 5h 10m, finished in 4h 32m 42s, no cramp and felt reasonably good after, just faded a bit coming off Inglebugger, but the support out there was great, thanks all;)
What happened to Stolly? Saw him bent over, coming off PYG, talking to Ady and never saw him again:(
Stolly buggered his ankle, and was kind enough to give me a lift back from the roadside.
Thanks for that Stolly and i hope your ankle isn't too bad.
Had a big fall at higher Birkwith, Smashed my knee and dodgy arm and puffed out. Gutted.
Two DNF's in two weeks.
:(
...more pics.

must make an effort to get 2008 pics on soon!
Cheers Mapper. Yes, I set off really slow, wanted to make sure i'd finish. Got to the top of Ingleborough and then i thought "race on!", but had left it too late for 4hrs despite passing runners all the way down. I was in some serious pain at the end, nasty. Suprised that i actually enjoyed it though, good atmosphere.
Mmmm eh Pilgrim is this you?

Wicked pictures Paul...
Love the train over the viaduct...
No. Wasn't running. Was just after Ady on the descent from PYG. No pic to offer as silly me left the camera there!
Was stood with Manhar on the descent from Ingleborough. Not met many of you so sorry if I didn't cheer you on! But well done anyway.:D
Becareful Disco this might become habit forming;)
well I decided to heed my own advice and take it easy and let all the silly bu&&ers rush off at the start. No plan to race after last weeks pain and suffering.
Nice and steady to RH where I walked and took on loads of food. I was passed by a multitude before the stream crossing and up the first 50 m but by the top they'd nearly all blown up and I had passed nearly all of them.
No cramp on the top of Whernside so I ran off feeling very happy.
Upped the pace abit then and ran a fair way up Inglebugger trying to chase Nicky down. No chance:rolleyes:
I had a weak moment on the last steep bit of Inglebugger but then ran all the way to the finish passing loads of runners hugging legs etc.
Finished 4.09 just as the rain started 20 mins off my PB not bad for a jog round and legs feel ace.
Finally met Ady(very briefly) and Pilgrim. Good to see Manhar on the mend and cheered on by Mrs Stagger. A great event with loads of support.
I hope you all enjoy your beer:) I've had two bottles tonight so I'm looking forward to tommorrow now.
Yes thanks, very nice.:)
Nice to meet some of you and put names to faces. Only met Manhar once before (briefly) when Moo was doing a recce for the 2005 race. She said he was "a nice lad":p and how right she was! Cheers Manhar for introducing me to some of these reprobates!
Well done to Anna too - 3:36:31.........
I slept well last night :D
Hard luck Craig and Stolly with the injuries and I hope they are mended soon.
Thanks to everyone concerned for all the encouragement and especially
the marshall who pointed out the grassier track to me below
Suber Nick as my right knee was complaining bitterly by then and needed
a rest from the limestone :(
First time I have climbed Whernside that way and I didn't find it too bad it was the flatter bits in between that knackered me :)
4.40 - that's a whole 27 mins better than first time out last year. Had terrible cramp stopping me in my track three times after the descent of Whernside. Thanks to the marshalls, other runners and the walker who helped me stretch it out and gave me something to drink. By the end I was feeling much better and managed to speed up over the last couple of miles. Really enjoyed it, learnt some lessons for next year. Also well done to my fellow Brightonian, see you out on the Downs soon.
Cheers - Raymond
p.s. If DFH is looking in then sorry I couldn't stay for your presentation but it takes a long time to drive back to the south coast; congratulations on the 20 3 Peaks completions
Think that was me that gave you the drink on top of Ingelbugger Raymond. You looked to be in a bit of pain! Get some Nuuns tablets fr next time. They are excellent at stopping cramp (that's what you drank) just add one to 500ml of water.
Did my best time of Inglebugger yesterday 42 mins !! Must have been tossing it off for the rest of it.!!
you had an absolute storming run Merry, looked fresh as a daisy afterwards, well done. I lost the valves from my drinks tube on the way up pg so had some ground to make up. After reaching top og PG 2mins quicker than last I eased off abit but somehow lost 10 mins on reaching RH. Think it may have been the stile queing? Felt ok up Wernside but went over on one of my glass ankles whilst descending so ran with that for a while. Once I made the hill inn cut-off I seemed to chill abit too much. From Ingleb, I started to go for it and counted 7 people I overtook before slipping and bringing on total cramps in both legs. I tried to run through but could only manage a walk whilst about 8 folk took me.
It was then I decided to just get off inglb without falling and didnt really go for it until the final field going under the bridge, managing a final 100yrd sprint too.
Not sure I'll be doing another long distance, think I'll stick medium.
Thanks to all supporters who woke me up at various points enroute: mrs stagger, manhar.
i had a bottle of Nuun waiting for me at the top of whernside and i was getting the cramps and i drank it on the way down and the cramps more or less went.
tho' i have a couple of very black toenails this morning and i reckon I am going to lose them? this has never happenned before. possibly because the ground was so hard?
anyway dont care as i am off to Turkey tomorrow morning for a week
cheers Merrylegs
you did well yesterday. 4:30 is my target so will just have to come back next year. just summoning the energy to pack the cases. The missus has gone off riding her hoss
I am off into town (skipton) to try and find some nuun tablets cos my useless mate hasnt got any here and i left mine in the iom
and i had a great day yesterday and really enjoyed it
5 hours 19 mins and 2 seconds! 574th next year might do the half manx mountain marathon come back and have another go
