The FRA Handbook says over 18 for this, but the form says under 16??
What's the deal here regarding juniors? Have you got a short course or something or can they only do the walking event?

Will do Steve, Can you pick them up pre race from Registration (I won't be there I'll be by the Bogmonsters lair with throw line) although it's been very dry recently. the way way off Howden edge over Round hill was dry 2 days ago!!
I'll try and find out YT Last year there was a young lad who did the long walk.
but he was accompanied by his dad.
No problem. I'm not carrying them round with me though!
I'm used to following the short route leaders over the Bogmonsters lair, could be a completely different experience this time as those running the long are bound to be more spread out by there and should be there well ahead of the short route. Could be fun at the end getting chased down by those in the race too :)
I'm going out Friday morning to Flag the watershed. I'll let you know how dry it is.
Re U16 year olds I think they are welcome on the walks if accompanied by an adult. I can't get in contact with any one to get a definate answer but If it says O18 for race then that will be the age limit. I will try and get clarification though.
Race is registered with FRA and therefore the FRA rules stand.
Rule 10 states age limits.
RULE TEN
Race organisers must stipulate age limits for their events but the following maximum distance limits for juniors must be observed.
Ages are as at 1st January in the year of competition.
For FRA Fell Races, the minimum age for competition is six years, and the following distance limits must be applied.
Under 8 - ½ mile (0.8k)
Under 10 - 1 mile (1.6k)
Under 12 - 2 miles (3.2k)
Under 14 - 3 miles (4.8k)
Under 16 - 4 miles (6.4k)
Under 18 - 6 miles (9.6k)
I ll need to be wheels rolling at 6am in the morning. Hoping jodj is going to show me way round if i can keep up :p Any news on the bogmonster?!
the rest of the edge is really dry at the moment, (still a little moist in places).
On Leaving CP1 follow path for a 2-300m then bare left to where I will be (Poss tent) or bright marker for the dryer crossing.
Bringing me a bacon butty will increase the chances of a dryer line.:p:D
Hello Andrew! I'll be up at 6am meself for brekky....in the DARK!
Bogmonster quite subdued at the mo', doubt he'll claim too many victims. Ran around the Cut Gate-Outer Edge section of the route a couple of weekends ago with Datt and it was good firm going underfoot. No significant rain's fallen in weeks so it'll be nice and springy. Mind you, Datt did manage to go in almost up to his waist so the Bogmonster was lurking after all....
I'll see you guys in the morning!
Room for 2 more? Me and my workmate Scouser.
The gods have looked down on me. Better weather on Sunday, therefore wife and yours truly out on Sunday for a walk.
I'm NOT under her thumb, but don't tell her I said that.
HI ALL - so........I'm doing the long route & am running it.....It's a 10am start but with bus leaving from CE CC @ 09:15 latest?????????????
Just a tad confused as only entered this one a few days ago & after a long day at work am just trying to work out what time to set off from home (Ripon area quite a way) - have seen various mentions of 8am/10am - runners/walkers long/short....
apols for being a bit thick....just fancy a "lie in" so to speak & don't want to get their ridiculously early if the times in my first paragraph above are true..
cheers
Mark...
Hi again...
ignore my last post - the long route is the "walk" and starts at 8am - the race is the shorter distance and starts at 10am......
so im running the long route - registration open from 7am. start at 8am.....
hopefully the only person confused b4 was me! apols for the confusion rather than enlightenment.
with that - I'll sign off.......now where's that glass of red wine gone!
mark....:)
Mark, long route start is 8am :( I ned to be leaving home near Ilkley at 6am and think you need to be doing similar ;)
Well, that was a windy few hours!!!!!
Enjoyed a steady trot round long route with GrahamB and Madeleine in very dry but incredibly windy conditions. Nice to see IanDP smiling as ever and doing a fine job of keeping innocent runners and walkers away from the bogmonster :) Good to see jodj and SteveS, who was last spotted flying alomg in fluoro green Ponies vest
Fresh that was.
Don't know about the calendar entry 15.5miles/1950ft?
I added a bit at the end, about 1/2mile, but I got 16.48miles/2739ft. Anyone else got stats to compare?
That was the windiest race I think I've ever competed in. Managed to find my way round apart from the last few hundred metres. I kept telling myself to get the map out and check but I was too knackered. Loads behind me were hoping that I was going the right way. Probably added a minute or two on. Thanks to all concerned. Back next year? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm...............
I plotted the route on Tracklogs and it came out at 15.8 miles and 1893ft. I don't think these software packages take into account all the little down and ups you do as you go across wild country - would they add up to 900ft though?.
Pesky wind nearly blew my contact lenses out!
good to see so many forumites including the first 6 in the Long walk
SteveS I would like to say respect but madness is nearer what I was thinking A VEST, albeit a pony vest was not enough clothes to be wearing when the wind was blowing the tops off the bogs (I kid you not)
Jodg -Nice ears
Datt
DerbyT looking like he was enjoying his time along the edge.
GrahamB
Madeline
Quite a few in the race aswell
Two Toenails
Kingsnail
Bluebike
Grimmer
amongst others
Windy yes brought back memories of that Edale skyline but no snow:rolleyes:
Got back off the hill after picking up the flags a little weary and looking forward to a beer but you had bought all 22 cases I had taken to the start!!!!
A busy afternoon for the MR teams in our area we had two casualties with broken legs/ankles early on. followed by another later near back tor.
3 teams in all so thanks to Glossop and Edale for joining in the fun and the air ambulance which had a 'hard landing' on the way to the last incident all well thankfully.
So to the route. how did every like the new version esp the race, It looks like we will be doing the same next year, everyone seemed to prefer the community center to the Barn.
Thanks to every one who joined in, Not sure yet how much we made but it will help towards the running of the team for another year.
Big thank you to mountain rescue marshals Ian; a real cheery bunch on a less than perfect day to be out on the hill. I always enjoy myself in Peakland
Yes, downloaded the route from my Garmin watch and that's what it said in Tracklogs - maybe I was just moving my arm up and down a lot!??
Will definately recce the end of the route next year, having dropped 5 mins messing around through 2 nav errors/indecisions. A good course of 2 halves, think the marshalls at the road crossing should do their stint on the fell next year and vice-versa!
Well organised and very well marshalled - but Ian, why didn't you flag everyone a little closer to the bmonster?
I was wearing gloves too! Aye, it was a bit chilly over the tops, but the effort I was having to put in to move against the wind kept me warm enough. Besides I thought it might get a bit lonely out there and the bogmonster attack. Flouro green at least meant I had a chance to be spotted rather than camoflaged in my black jacket. :D
Sad news for the injured, puts into perspective that whilst we were having fun we were also raising money to help keep the rescue team going. A broken limb in the wind chill without any assistance from MR could have turned far worse.Quote:

The long was essentially the same the route, the new version meant I didn't have my usual chance to get lost in the woods on the way back to the Barn so that was a good thing :)Quote:

I've never actually done the short route though I know the area, surely the new route has got to be better than that flat slog along the TPT? The extra small ascents up by Winscar, to Hade Edge and at the end of Ox Lee make it a bit tougher (I'm glad I wasn't racing up that last one), shame about needing to use some tarmac in the second half, though going down Snittle Lane and then across the fields was a good choice to cut out some from the old long route.
It was good in the community centre all being the same room rather than being seperated as in the Barn, and parking was easier, other than that not a lot to choose between the two for me.
Thanks to everyone involved in organising the event. I'm certainly glad I wasn't one of those up on the moor being buffetted about all day.Quote:

Oh, getting through the scrum to meet Jessica Ennis in Meadowhall this afternoon almost made the run look easy
Wow, what an adventure wind like i have never known before , knee deep in peat 5 times it was great i thoroughly enjoyed it . Just a few questions too you guys who have done this before. Is this a typical day on the fells ?. Was that the usual amount of wind ?. Was i stupid going knee deep in peat 5 times ?. And finally did i choose an easy or difficult one to begin with and would you say this is good practice for the Rowbothams Round Rotherham i am doing in 2 weeks ?. What a day fabulous.
Well done Tri! Think you were unlucky with the peat bogs - I nearly managed the whole of the long route with dry feet - a first!
The wind today was awful. I don't think it was as bad as the famous Edale race, but not far off it. Although today there didn't seem to be any break in the wind - no shelter as all. Of course it was much warmer than Edale, so perhaps that made the difference.
And as for preparation for Rotherham - probably not much use really! Well - time on your feet is always useful. Rotherham has more road, and more paths which are easy to run on, and did have some ploughed fields which were just awful. Thick clay type stuff that I wouldn't suggest you prepare for in any way!!! But it's much earlier this year, so not sure what the fields will be like.
Anyway - don't let that put you off Rotherham! See you there
tri-mind, are you the lad with the sore hip? Said it was your first fell race? If so, blooming well done! Today will be good time on your feet, and it's highly unlikely the weather will be as bad for the RRR50. Bit of advice: the food at RRR50 isn't particularly great and having a few of your fave treats in your rucksac might help as you get tired ;)
