Have a look at this map and find Warrendale Knotts middle right. I was stood by the word Cairn  on the way to the 440 m trig point and looking to the north west I guess :D

Those big signs in the sky should help with navigation on the day. I'm not sure I agree with them though, its kind of cheating.
I have an entry spare if anyone wants it.
Um think 3.20 should be doable for me this yr....
First time for me. No idea what to expect. Any suggestions on training gratefully received.
Anniversary waltz for me this year.
Last year a very well known fell runner told me its only three hills with a bit of running between!
Coming down PYG i thought "that was easy". I got a couple of shocks later on!
Dunno whats going on with entries here.
Now 964 entries, when there was supposed to be a max of 850 to the general public.
Hmm, letting people enter above the limit with a strict non refund policy.
Seems abit suspect...
I'm loving all the race tips you lot have given that poor guy! He's probably really looking forward to it now! :D
I will miss it this year :(
Anni Waltz virgin though! :)
PPP 2011 for sure.
Any advice on footwear? The ground looks quite firm from the videos. So what do people recommend? If inov8's, which model?
Thanks
look on last years thread or even search footware for three peaks i'm sure there was a thread on this but lots run in road shoes:eek: I prefer lightweight trails shoes for the extra grip. if it's been dry on the run up to the event I would avoid pure fell shoes as there is lots of ahrd track. some I'm sure will have other opinions:rolleyes:
This perenial 'what footwear for the 3 peaks' question really really gets on my wick :D. Every year people ask and I, knowing the route really quite well, like to point out just how difficult going it can be and every.. flipping.. year.. without.. fail.. April is really dry weather wise and the trainer/trail shoe brigade prove themselves right yet again.
I stubbornly refuse to wear anything other than fell shoes
Kanadias for me, rain or shine.
we ran the 3 peaks yesterday as prep for the High Peak Marathon, you would have been better suited with crampons and ice axes yestarday as the weather was very unpleasent.
you could hardly recognise the 3 summit,s
Roclite 312 GTX's or 320's for me. Never failed me yet.
I would say, pick the shoes that are going to be most comfortable for you personally over the distance.
Anyone know what conditions are like up there at the moment? I'm guessing there'll be some snow on the tops, just wondering how much.
Cheers
We were up there two weeks ago, so I'm not sure of the conditions now. We did Whernside & Ingleborough, both had plenty of snow on the tops.
Whernside was OK really but Ingleborough was quite a bit worse. Going was OK until you come off the pavement onto the climb itself. The path basically disappeared half way up & we resorted to tracking across to the wall & going up the side of that, snow was probably 2-3 ft deep in places on the face.
The top of Ingleborough was treacherous, a bit of snow sat on top of shot ice, made it fun coming back from the trig!
If Pendle this weekend is anything to go by, I would suggest conditions on PPP are still not great.
Cheers. Interesting! The climb up Ingleborough's not exactly pleasant at the best of times. I'm hoping to do the 3 on Saturday, so hopefully might be a bit improved with some decent weather this week. Although it looks like getting colder again for the weekend. Still, it could be worse. I could be doing the HPM...
A friend was up on P-y-G yesterday - still plenty of snow around:)
The tops all have plenty of snow but you'll get through using the main tracks. I wouldn't recommend using route one up Whernside though - use the walkers loop up.
The Whernside ridge the weekend before last. Since then a fair bit of snow fell on Friday.

Cheers... great pic.
I was up there with two people on Saturday. We did Whernside and Ingleborough. It was still pretty much like Stolly's photograph, tough going but very beautiful.
The snow is pretty thick on the tops and it is very slippy going on the descents. But there is nothing at all lower down.
went to do whernside and inglebrough yesterday.(tuesday)
parked at horton and caught the 10.00 train to ribblehead.
climb up Whernside fine but very wet and heavy,
until final bit where there was a bit of snow, had to dig shoes into ice to get a good grip.once on the top it was ok,descended ok but just a bit sloppy where sun penetrating the ice.
inglebrough was good, just the climb up the waterfall was interesting,i used the fence posts and wire to pull myself up.
on top it was all clear.
coming off there was some snow pockets, just a case of ensureing a good foothold.
not done it for a few years so was suprised to see the cows on the return to horton.
plenty of friendly walkers made it a nice run.
Took the family up Ingleborough on New Year's Day. Beautiful scenery but had to get Mountain Rescue out for the family ahead by the frozen waterfall. They'd lost their bottle on the way down and went to ground by the kissing gate.
Unfortunately can't make it,got to watch Jarse jnr performing in Iolanthe that day.If anyone out there wants it,PM me and we'll sort it out.
I am also offering my entry up for any takers.
Sadly my excuse is injury after Edale Skyline.:(
Even if I managed to get the calf sorted out, it would be asking for trouble to attempt my first PPP on zero training.
Also offering mine :p
Stupid non refunds. :/
Drat, same weekend as the k.downfall... :(
