Do you know what - I think he had a bad race at White Holme to be a dark horse and have a mega run at the Relays...he's going for the leg record. :D

Pudgy might have a mega run, tied to the back of rob Jebb!:D

Re: Pennine Bridleway Relay
Just back from a recce of Leg 5 - the descent from the "Top of Leech" seems to have deteriorated significantly since last year.

Re: Pennine Bridleway Relay

Parking at start of leg 2 is a lot easier than at the end of leg 2 which is on the main road from Tod just before Hebden Bridge (Callis Bridge).

Is that the same place that leg 6 ended on the Calderdale relay? as in across a field up into the forest, etc...

Re: Pennine Bridleway Relay
Just wondering, are there any kit rules for this?

In accordance with FRA rules and having regard to the nature of the route and the time of year, it is mandatory that every competitor must wear or carry windroof ( preferably waterproof ) whole body cover i.e. cagoule and overtrousers, other body cover appropriate for the weather conditions, map suitable for safely navigating the course, compass, whistle plus hat and gloves. Emergency food should also be considered and competitors should bring such additional equipment in the event that it is required.
9. Kit checks will be made in accordance with FRA rules at the start and finish of each leg. Competitors must ensure that they are at the start of their leg in sufficient time for kit checks to be carried out.

It is of some use young Al. If the temperature has failed to get above freezing by 3 in the afternoon; then just think how cold it will still be at 08.30 when you are starting Leg1.....it will still be as cold as if it was pre-dawn. Make sure that you have some good kit with you.:D

Re: Pennine Bridleway Relay
Another question.
I dont have any plans of jetting of into the distance and leaving my partners behind - honest Karen!
But, is the a furthest distance ahead you can get from your partner...alternatively....how far behind can you drop.
-
Re: Pennine Bridleway Relay
From what I've seen in previous years, the marshals will not allow a change-over to take place if your partners is more than around 10 yards adrift, technically both members of the pair should hand-over to the next leg, together. It does not psychologically help the weaker partner if the stronger partner disappears over the horizon. If you are worried about being dropped by the storming K.N. - I reckon she has enough experience and savvy to nurse you round like a true professional.

But are you allowed to scoot ahead to open gates?
Just printed my map off and high-lighted my map, put my number on my vest the other night (combination of not being able to get to sleep and also to preventing not forgetting it) - Just have to make sure i dont forget the vest!
Are the thorough (spelling) with the kit search?
-
Re: Pennine Bridleway Relay
A lead of 50 yards should be enough for opening gates - a good tip, as you approach the gate look for the hinges; you need to be at the other end of the gate to undo it. Seems very basic; but you'll be surprised how many knackered/disorientated teams you will see, wasting time by making an initial attempt to find the fastener at the hinge end.
Just be certain to re-group to encourage one another along and for the change-over. KN will have it all-sorted, I'm certain.
They ought to be very strict - snow flurries are forecast, they could insist on 'fully waterproof, full-body cover'. Remember hat & gloves!

Sounds stupid but thats a good point actually, cheers.
On your second point, ive got my new OMM smock and new Montane trouser things....not worn either yet but looks like the smock may be coming out for a run.

Re: Pennine Bridleway Relay
Remember hat & gloves; and regroup between gates and approaching the change-over.
( I added them to my previous post in an 'edit')

Reckon the majority will wear trail shoes mate;)

Re: Pennine Bridleway Relay
If you've loads of trail in your leg you'll be great in trail shoes.
If you're going across loads of moorland fellshoes may be better.
I've been over the tops of rossy today and it's boggy off path.
-
Re: Pennine Bridleway Relay
Was going to wear trailies for leg 2. It's all track with some tarmac thrown in. Not doing it now due to injury............ah well!

Anyone got any idea how much tarmac on leg 3? I prefer fell shoes but must consider comfort on tarmac if its going to be a pounding eh?
Also how long exactly is leg 3?
