I am just glad i am not manning a check point (unless it was an indoor one) imagine standing out for that long in the Pouring rain and wind, they are the hero`s in my book.
Talking of heroics you will see none from me on Saturday just a leisurely Squelch round at 11-12 minute mile pace with maybe a bit of a pick up in pace over the last 10 miles if i have it left in me.
Target time somewhere between 10 & 11 hours and feeling in reasonable shape;)
Will you be running all 50miles John or do you tend to have a walk up the hills
Also what is was the final finishing time last year, do people actually stay out for 16 hours?
Jamie
You will cruise it, if all goes well you will be round in about 9 hours possibly 10 if you are suffering. You only need to average 5.5 mph which should be doable given that there isn't much climbing, just don't stop at the checkpoints, grab some food and water and keep going remember (6 mins each at 10 CP =1 hour). Definitely walk up anything steep, remember it's about finishing not winning, on the flat and down hill run at a slow pace, if you are having to breath hard you are going too fast and you are burning too much of your reserve. Just keep it comfortable
I'm sure you all will canter:p round.
Good luck
There's very few hills in it really, well what a fell runner would class as a hill. We ran most of it last time. The main issue will be ploughed fields I reckon, could really slow you down. Take spare socks and change if you get too much soil and mud in your shoes as it can rub.
Good luck, I think the missus is getting a bit nervous, her first ultra for 3 or so years, but she's a better runner now so it will be interesting to see how she goes.

Is it true that Dolly Parton has flown in just for event? :p
Still a bit chesty, and it's less than 2 days to go.
How long after a heavy cold should I be looking to run again? Mrs Basil, and Basil's mum, are both "concerned" that I will kill myself if I run it.
Be careful with that one Basil
I usually give it a week after I feel better.
These bugs tend to stick around a little bit longer than you think.
I ran myself down last year after a bug and it made me ill, chesty and off for longer.
If you fancy a super chilled time, walk round with me and my chums
Jamie
i agree , you should go very steady if you start on sat , ive got over the worst of my chest infection only to be hit with a rather violent stomch bug .i havent eaten for couple days because of it and am concerned myself. but if i do get there me and my mate will be taking it very steady ourselfs so therell be other people putting a lot walking in too that you can tag onto.apart from the top end of the feild these events are not a "race" anyway, there a long day out in good company i usally find. only you know if you feel upto it.we'll maybe see you there,i'll be the other one coughing :)
Its just the time of yearr, my training diary from this time last year was very up and down.
I seemed to start aorund Pendle (3 week ago) this time last year.
I did not feel myself until early december, had 3 good weeks in December. Then from new year onwards for 2 months I was completely on and off.
Bloody Winter I say.
12 hours in the p***ing down rain on Saturday will see you all right.
the problem is jamie we still want to run when we are badly and then make yourself worse
we have all done it
yes its always this time of year
I've said that before on one of my posts Eccentric, Doh i never learn
I find Vit C works for colds but lets not go there again.
Does anyone know what the food is available at the checkpoints?
Is it a bowl of hot stuff or just energy stuff like Jaffa cakes and Stuff.
If we pass a Chippy late on I'm darting in for pie, chips, gravy and a can of dandelion & burdock without question.
If you remove the horror of the distance and weather this sounds like a great day out.
Reminds me of the best bike race I ever did - the Mersey Roads 24 hr time trial.
8 hrs in, and I had ordered in a double fish and chips with 1 litre of Irn Bru. Magic! I ate the lot perched on the aero bars (the fish and chips, not me). Perked me up no end, that did.
Sorry to be pedantic, but if you remove the horror of the distance and weather then all you are left with is a distinctly unpleasant set of yobs and some decidedly dodgy postcodes!
I still hope to run, but have agreed with Mrs B to visit the doc tomorrow afternoon. [he's a pal and a runner, so I will make sure I get a "thumbs up". I need to have a chat about one or two other things as well (don't ask) (no really- nothing to see- move along)].
I wanted to do a fairly decent time, but in the circumstances I'd rather settle for a plod and finish, than (a) no-show or (b) fast start and explode
I missed the RR last year, so would be gutted to miss it again.
Don't know why you are all worried about little colds etc....... can you bloody swim 50 miles?
Last update on rrr web site shows 281 individual entries
88 walkers
193 runners
166 first timers
and 27 relay teams
I guess it shouldn`t be to lonely and most of us will have some company.
And on the plus side the rain should help keep some of the Scalies of the streets.
Im ready bring it on:eek:
tell you what guys , after tonights rain this is going to be a quagmire
great:)
we have to have a camera for pictures
Was very tempted, and originally part of my plans. But going through a 'bad spell' at work and running, so winding it back till I feel good. Just want long days out all on my own, plodding around on tops of the Welsh hills - not sure Rotherham would be the same  , in fact not sure where Rotherham is???
Good luck all, I know you'll be fine John - just make sure the others reign their enthusiasm/speed in for the first 30, eat all the grub offered, keep talking, and they will be really enjoy it; as you well know ;) .
They will all be well chuffed when they finish.
