Reminds me of the best bike race I ever did - the Mersey Roads 24 hr time trial.
8 hrs in, and I had ordered in a double fish and chips with 1 litre of Irn Bru. Magic! I ate the lot perched on the aero bars (the fish and chips, not me). Perked me up no end, that did.
Sorry to be pedantic, but if you remove the horror of the distance and weather then all you are left with is a distinctly unpleasant set of yobs and some decidedly dodgy postcodes!
I still hope to run, but have agreed with Mrs B to visit the doc tomorrow afternoon. [he's a pal and a runner, so I will make sure I get a "thumbs up". I need to have a chat about one or two other things as well (don't ask) (no really- nothing to see- move along)].
I wanted to do a fairly decent time, but in the circumstances I'd rather settle for a plod and finish, than (a) no-show or (b) fast start and explode
I missed the RR last year, so would be gutted to miss it again.

Was very tempted, and originally part of my plans. But going through a 'bad spell' at work and running, so winding it back till I feel good. Just want long days out all on my own, plodding around on tops of the Welsh hills - not sure Rotherham would be the same, in fact not sure where Rotherham is???
Good luck all, I know you'll be fine John - just make sure the others reign their enthusiasm/speed in for the first 30, eat all the grub offered, keep talking, and they will be really enjoy it; as you well know.
They will all be well chuffed when they finish.
