All of the roads around here are crap - just as well I do all my mileage on a full sus MTB!!
Gentle 16 miler for me today. More bikies out round here than normal, it's not much of bike town round here.

I am back into the swing of things... did an hour on the crosser Saturday eve, with Mr H on my MTB, and three hours steady and hilly, in the 39 ring, this morning, followed by an hours running along a coastal path up and down cliffs along the south coast of Wales, as part of the Runners World 'Coasters' relay...
Now, will I be back to reasonable fitness in time for 3 Peaks CX?
Time will tell... planning on running every morning for 45 mins or so before work this week, followed by an hour on the crosser after work and before dark... then see if I can manage a 4 hour ride and a one hour run next Sunday...
lots of cycling bits at Aldi on Thursday
Weekend report: 50 miles on Friday in the pouring rain, over the Bwlch in horrendous conditions, utterly miserable in a kind of satisfying sort of way. Muse at Wembley on Saturday, utterly brilliant, shame about the lack of transport infrastructure around the national stadium......doh....
Sunday cruising 30 miles out in the Vale, very pleasant, bike now dry!
You know Daz, given the saga we had to get back that would have been a very good idea.
And yes(ish), a quickie, so to speak, I promise to do better in future.;)
Hmmm... bikes... cleaning... :o
Nice 20 miles round Cave creek. Saw a Coyote, rattle snake, Lizzards and a few Eagles. Oh and some Road runners ( yes, the birds!).
And i think the time is wrong, Brett. My watch says 5:44pm.
Daz'ington.
What oil do you use on your chain...and any other lubes you use - On your bike!
Ive always used some castrol 'hypo' gear oil. It was my grandad's...and he died 11 years ago. But its vertually untouched and seems to do the job.
My Focus Black Forest Pro 2010 arrived from wiggle the other monday night....OH MY DAYS...its beautiful!!!
Took it for an epic spin on sunday and got caked in mud and loved it.
Cleaned it down thinking of daz h...and oiled all three of my bike's chains.
Daz, you'll love how I store my bikes! My dads a joiner and he's come up with a belter of a solution - Only issue is that ive no idea how to upload full size pictures to show you.
oils and lubes AL
oh
right here goes. In my box I have
GT85 ( every bikie has that ) lubricant and penetrator
and gives a film o your bike form protection
TF2 grease for headsets ( lithium grease basically) water resistant
Park tool polylube grease( same as above but I use this on bottom brackets and pedals
WD40 which I use a lot for cleaning comboned with a degreaser
Nimrod , cycle oil for the chain
Finishing Line wet lube , for the chain if its wet a lot
and my fav lube oil is EPIC white lightning.
For cleaning my frame I use furniture polish AL
Its also worth rubbing some olive oil inside your seattube.
In a week or so I will strip my Rourke down to the frame and clean and double clean everything. Perhaps a bit ott , but I never ever have mechanicals.
Im not sure whats recommnded forthat carbon stuff. Emma will advise mate
Cheers daz, i'll get googling those.
I was always weary of WD40 seazing things up...obviously not.
Ive decided im going to buy a turbo for the winter and see if I can really get my legs right and I fancy trying an XC MTB race - I know, I might as well say im going to become friends with beelzebub himself daz, but I went mtb'ing on my new FOCUS hardtail on sunday and loved it - Partly due to my mud fettish.
You'll love how ive got my bikes stored in the garage...my dads a joiner and he's come up with a cracker....Id post a big picture if I knew how to!
Hmmmm... high time I cleaned my bikes, or rather, Mr H. cleaned my bikes ;) He seems to be in charge of that sort of thing these days, he insists on it! He has even threatened to clean out and hoover and wash my car :w00t:
Back on the track this morning for the first time in 6 weeks... not been on since the track champs. Hard sprint based session, but good to be back. Not sure if it is ideal training for 3 Peaks, but it is all part of the crash week of getting myself back on track for it after two weeks off the bike...
I suppose that is right :)
Last year I was really surprised about the fact that we started off at about 30 mph, like any odd road race! I was glad I accidentally positioned myself at the front. I could not get further back after a last minute loo stop, even though my expected time was slower than where I was at the start... lots of exploding tubes and bashing and crashing behind me apparently...
30 mile on mountain bike getting muddy. A good afternoon out:thumbup:
I shall be trying to ride again later on, road bike...
Took a tumble fell running wednesday eve... fell exactly on the same cuts on hand and elbow, so they opened up again and managed to damage my elbow even further by chipping the ulna :( so haven't been on the bike or running yesterday or this morning yet...
Oh dear Hann, you're in the wars at the moment  - good luck at the PPP is it tomorrow
Well I managed to get on my bike today - just a shade over 4 and a half hours worth :D
No idea how far though as my flippin garmin went kaputen on me just as I was heading out the door, no matter how much I shook it, bashed it or chucked it, the thing wouldn't work. Still managed to have a fab ride and hardly saw anyone!
Went all round the lanes of Bowland (Longridge, Chipping etc) then onto Whitewell and Dunsop Bridge heading into the Trough of Bowland....after 4 hours of hills I was getting a bit fed up and cursing the 12/27 and had just got onto the flat A6 when some dude in his quickstep outfit came hooning past...harumph....immediate intake of a shot block followed with me then in hot pursuit, - jeeezuz he was quick, caught him a few miles on and was praying to God he was going straight on at the lights but the bugger turned right just as I did...arrghhh....this then meant 3 miles or so of me breathing out my backside along side him whilst he blathered on about his bike racing/triatherlonning and spin instructing!! Nice guy mind but I was well and truly bolloxed and have no idea what speed we were doing as I was too focused on trying to breathe! I was SO glad when the bugger headed off in the opposite direction where I immediately turned the corner and almost came to a grinding halt with exhaustion! On the back of 4 hours I probably should learn not to chase the man on the bike?!
Anyway - a very eventful day on the whole, (I'll be typing all night if I even begin to waffle on about it) I'm starting to think it can only happen to me!
My legs ache now. :o
54 miles for me into the peak. I rode to winster and back in a roundabout sort of way. Up past the mushroom makers house:rolleyes:. Headwind going out but lovely coming back down the a6. Not many other bikies out but rode past a lady towing one of these trailers. Very impressed and she was very pretty. We exchanged hellos through mattock and she said she was heading to bake well. Bless her, not easy towing one of those in the peak.
4 1/2 hrs , well done Emma. Nice one.
Sorry to hear of your fall hanne
Blimey some good rides in the last of the good weather. Just 25 miles for me in a late afternoon sneak, but a fairly taxing little outing, up the dreaded Ponty golf course climb, as steep as Devils staircase but longer:eek: then some minor lumps on the way home feeling very ill. Ave of only 14 tells the story!
Nowt wrong with 14 average toffer when your feeling a bit flat. If I'm not feeling right I tend to actually go a lot slower and take in the scenery more. It's surprising what you see.
It was colder yesterday as well.
The vuelta will be decided today, don't forget that on eurosport. My man nibali no 1 in general classification.
I was thinking yesterday. The sky team have got to sign Nicholas roc he . He is pure quality.
Today will see a bit more bike maintenance. The Mercian needs a polish:rolleyes:
19 miles this morning. Took a road I'd not used before to avoid the horrible undulating road out. Looking back on the maps now I'm back, the road I took is actually hillier! Avg 15 - not bad on a full sus MTB with knobbly tyres!
25 this morning in glorious sunshine fave route around burton dassett hills avg 18 which is good for me !
ouch hanneke! hope you are ok for peaks next weekend! elbow chip sounds painful!
xx
Just under 50 miles yesterday over the Brynna and Bwlch climbs, pushing on over the tops to keep warm, too cold to stop for an ice cream! Good solid 16.3 ave after a good stomp home. Bit of a headache this morning after some beers last night, it appears as though I am now doing a LEJOG next year.......ho hum. Is that a good enough excuse for another bike on the Dom principle of n=n+1 ??????
Yesterday had a Jaunt over Pike o Blisco to the three shires stone from langdale with my old Alan crosser!
Well it looked like a shot cut on paper:confused:
A cracking club ride today up to Ingleton via Settle, Lawkland, Clapham & Austwick and back on the lane that runs parallel to the main Chapel-Le-Dale road, Ribblehead, Horton, Little Stainforth, Giggleswick, Sawley, & Clitheroe.
Was quite sunny, clear and around 20 degrees up there - a little warm for carrying CX bikes up big climbs! Hope it stays as clear on Sunday, looking forward to spectating. Around 78 miles today at a sensible 16.2 average.
Looking forward to seeing you on Sunday Ady! I will be in Cardiff Ajax kit, it has a whopping great big CARDIFF down the side of the shorts, so you can't miss it :) Orange and white Catlike helmet...
Good luck hanneke. No bike for me, raced this morning and 8 miles with the dog just. Now watching . A Sunday in he'll for like the 50th time. Oh just remembered I did fit a new toilet seat as well
