Race kit requirements.
This has been on many times so im sorry.
As Emmilou has kindly offerend me a lift to the Roaches, i now need to make sure i have the right kit so i dont get disqualified.
From what i gather you need a waterproof jacket, compass, map, whistle.
Do you need waterproof trousers because i dont have any of those; should i get on pete bland quick and by all i need - currently i only have a waterproof jacket:o

Re: Race kit requirements.
Minimum requirements is full body windproof cover, however the organiser may insist this is upped to full waterproofs. It would certainly be worth your while getting some windproof trousers. You don't have to get the best ones money can buy, most people just carry the trousers, so you may be able to get away with going into Preston and getting some cheapy lightweight pants from somewhere.

Re: Race kit requirements.
Cheers.
I think i need a mini shopping trip 2mz then.

Re: Race kit requirements.
I'll get them then.
I do have some waterproof with a padding on the inside to keep my legs warm, but there wouldnt be any room in my bumbag for food and stuff.:)

Re: Race kit requirements.

very light and pack into their own pocket so take up very little room. came in very handy on this years Saunders M.M.

Inov8 Mislite are £25 from Pete Blands, or Regatta packaway trousers £20 from cotswold. They look like they could be packed down well.

It's surprising how big the kids clothes can be. If you make it down to say a 28 waist it widens your choice.................

Re: Race kit requirements.
A 28" waist, I was a kid the last time I was that size, you lucky bugger.

Most are wind and water resistent.
I can confirm the above though that yes most people do only carry them but from experience that yes if you have a fall/accident etc and are rendered incapable of maintaining a run to at least keep warm the trousers are essential - it also helps to have someone around to help you put them on after your hands have become completely useless because of the cold!!
There we have emmi's top tip for kit - a decent pair of gloves!!

28" Waist :eek::eek::eek:
Re Gloves, I've always been surprised how much of a difference even a thin pair of gloves can make on a windy day, as such I just go for the extremities thinnies types of gloves you can get.

my nike Thjermal lightweight gloves http://www.peteblandsports.co.uk/tro.../581/index.htm are material ones , but when they get wet they tend to still maintain warmth which is good, i hate my hands being cold.
Trouser wise, i only carry the mac in a sac ones, they are windproof, waterproof and taped seams. they do the job, however, the top is not so good! Seems to let some water in

my montane featherlite is the same - great as is light and indeed windproof, not so great in a down pour hence the reason for getting the OMM Kamlieka smock although that doesn't pack down as small nor does the Montane Velocity that I have although that is waterproof too but that one doesn't have a hood!!

forgot to add, i always have a little foil/space blanket in my kit, very useful if injured to maintain heat

its that smock i was going to go for for MM next year, but still sticking with mac in sac kegs the smock's quite pricey:eek:

Re: Race kit requirements.
The mistlite jacket, at least, is NOT waterproof.
First aid kit isn't required.

Yes it is quite pricey but it's the dogs danglies :D very light and easy to run in it doesn't make that rustly noise which was something I couldn't have stood for longer distance running and the material is very comfortable.

Re: Race kit requirements.
Anyone got any cow sh*t proof clothes for the farm at the start and end? :D
-
Re: Race kit requirements.
Darth, they were waterproof at the ovvernight camp and it was nice to put em on top of dry tights after the soaking we got in the day ...however I haven't run in em for hours on end in the pouring rain...I find I don't need waterproof trousers when running whatever the weather as my hairy legs combined with 3/4 length tights do the job nicely.
What are good about these is they weigh virtually nothing and pack down very small into their own inbuilt pocket as lets face it 90% of the time you put em in your bumbag thats where they'll stay
-
Re: Race kit requirements.
Ive just saved myself £20 :D.
Using my sisters bobble :p, i folded my thick waterproof trousers up nice and tight, wrapped the bobble round and i can fit both my jacket and pants into one of the two compartments in my bumbag :D
-
Re: Race kit requirements.
What kind of stuff do you all carry for 'first aid'.
Darth mentions a space blanket and i usually carry plasters - and tape if my heel goes.
-
Re: Race kit requirements.
a nurse ;)
In a mountain marathon I always take a few compeed blister plasters and they always get used!! antiseptic wet wipe, bit of antiseptic cream and an ankle strapping
-
Re: Race kit requirements.
No plasters .
Will savlon do?

Re: Race kit requirements.
i'm a very safety concsious dude, not just for my sake but for others who may get injured too. So, my first aid kit contains two wound dressings (just in case anyone has arguments with styles);), i have antiseptic wipes, plasters, blister plasters, small sterile water, bandage, pins, Two deep heat sachets , space blanket and small surgical tape. All this compreses into a very small pack.
Oh and Al, how are you with navigation? I go running sundays in bowland, you would be welcome to come and have some nav sessions, as long as you bear in mind i'm an old git and cant keep up with young whipper snappers:D
