i think a quick trip up to Snake pass this week just to have a visual recce.
hopefully the warmer weather may sort it out a little bit, though im sure the conditions are still going to be bad.
as a HPM virgin i really hope that the route does not get changed on Friday. it would be a real shame not to do the full route after all the prep that the team have done, though i do understand why they do this on the odd occasion.
good luck to all and see you on Friday...
P.S is anyone getting a little exited
the Met office weather forecast is showing heavy snow for Friday night in the Sheffield area..
In the words of the great Edmund Blackadder, "I think the phrase rhymes with clucking bell".........
Exited as in .. I'm just going out for a short walk, I may be some time...?
I don't honestly think conditions yesterday on Bleaklow were much worse than 2006 when there was a lot of snow, but as has been said safety comes first and it's the safety of the CP staff that is just as important as everyone else's. Hope they do the full route though.
if that happens it's hard to see how they can do the Bleaklow section. The road is open at the moment but any snow or wind(drifting) will cause it to close due to the amount already up there.
Marshals will have a tough time if they can get there. I'm not sure how they will get there tent pitched at SS. The road would need to be clear to evacuate any one dropping out or surffering from exposure etc. where this is a race/route for strong experienced parties you still have a responsibility to the runners.
Personnaly I think it will go ahead as it stands.
General Forcast for the mountains of britain from MWIS for the next 5 days has it slightly dryer,
I'm going up to inspect the route on Wednesday to Bleaklow Stones. I'll take a few pics and we'll keep our fingers crossed. On the positive side the less faster teams will hit bleaklow in daylightOverall, remaining cold with the snow pack across upland Scotland, and on higher areas elsewhere remaining in place. Patchy snow may reach the far west on Tuesday, and continue here and there Wednesday and Thursday (although the detail of just where is uncertain). Cold easterly winds will set in during Thursday (perhaps overnight), and then over the weekend, back northerly. Freezing levels will rise from the north (as the wind turns northerly) but a thaw is unlikely to extend to higher Scottish summits.![]()
If the Glossop lot are first just give them Turkey Rashers.
