Thread: Edale Skyline Fell Race

I tried this line as someone did it behind me last year and made good time on me. However I took too big a sweep and was tired so overrall gained nothing from it except a new view.

As per everyone else thanks to all the organisation and marshalls, made a nice change to still have food left when I arrived back at the hall.

Mixed day as i got a Pb 4.24 (roughly), but a few bad choices on the day leave you feeling down as it seems a chance missed wanted to be closer to 4.

Interesting to hear how everyone got on. Last year I contoured round after Jacob's Ladder and recon it paid off.

I've been put on a short course of performance enhancing drugs to see if they resolve my breathing problems.

I think my mate who came 2nd lady might need testing - she improved on her time last year by more than half an hour ... Blinding run, that.

I ran with her for a while and she eventually dropped me on the approach to Grindslow Knoll. She had an absolutely brilliant run. And she even had the class to offer me some of her drink as we ran! Was pleased she got a top three finish it was well deserved.

My Garmin says 1150m, which when multiplied by 3.3 results in 3,800ft.

I took the lower line to Pym Chair. I hadn't reccied it, but there was a train in front of me who did so. I'd thought I'd blown up on Brown Knoll, but didn't lose too many places/ground on those in front. The line to Pym chair gained me about 5 places - there were lots of people fannying around on the climb up from Jacob's Ladder cp, and a few people couldn't hack the terrain on the lower line.
I then took the Woolpacks line and was going well until I ballsed up the end of it - still lost no time, but I was glad some friends of mine had got lost looking for the Ammo box and were there to spur me on along to Grindslow! I also took a much better line to Grindslow than those just behind me, and somehow had the last edge to myself! Which was lucky, as I had to stop a bit for cramp :S

Hope everyone enjoyed my rendition of 'Oh what a beautiful morning' on the top of Ringing Roger#1!

I abandoned the last bit and cut up to rejoin the main path just in front of them, as whilst the contour is a quicker line, on tired legs it is a bit of a struggle and I felt I'd lose the ground I'd made up if I continued on it. I hadn't previously recced that line. Ian built up a good advantage by seeing it all the way through though, I think he came out just before Woolpacks.

Speaking of which, if you can hit on the racing line behind Woolpacks you save a massive amount of time. Hadn't really been satisfied I'd found it on my recces but luck was in yesterday and I cruised by.
I think it's important you stick to your convictions, you don't have to run much of it on the best line, Splatcher I took my usual line not the one we reccied and it paid off, Even if you don't gain its easier(for me) over the moor, less climbing and shorter distance.

Simon did you follow my line through the WP's, thats where I overtook Glen I think. I was chatting to Stu Bond and Jon M afterwards telling them of a great line later that they didn't know........Much quicker and easier on the legs, Of course I'm not going to divulge such valuble info over the internet......

Cheers Nutkey Brown Knoll's not an official water stop but I've managed to lug some up there from Barber Booth these past three years, seems to be popular.

Given that Rhys is the young fit one, he can do the lugging next year....
