Most people try and get a back-to-back support in prior to their own attempt, but any normal mortal will need a recovery period from that. I'm thinking that about 2 - 3 weeks of gradually decreasing intensity with a total rest week leading up to the Big Day should be sufficient. What do you think?

    Thanks Martyn

Pleased to hear that your training is back on track.
I was planning to taper 3 weeks prior to my attempt, I have agreed to assist leg 1 for somebody 3 weeks before and I was planning that to be my last Lakes trip, then to decrease the intensity of my training. Not 100% what I will do in this 3 week taper but my final week will not include any hills. (I have entered a 5.9mile road race...ooopps)
I think during the final week I will do this road race and then maybe just a 2/3 mile gentle jog.
The two week prior to this I will continue with my core workouts and maybe do 1 hill session each week with just 2 easy runs.
    Any further advice is welcome...

Ash, forget the road race and focus on the BG. Seriously!

I know I should really, it's a good t-shirt and you get a bottle of beer!
Seriously if I do it, I will treat it like an steady/easy run not a race.

My only real aim for this year is the BG!!

Just been reading some of the forum you suggested on tapering, looks interesting with some good advice!

If you're starting to trip over you may be getting a bit tired and losing concentration. Could you be in need of a lighter week of training?

Oh and I agree; Clough Head is horrendous!

The thought of being a bit jaded had crossed my mind. You don't want to admit to yourself though do you?

As for Clough Head, it doesn't get any smaller but repetition means you know "it will come to an end, just keep grinding on"!

Doing some hill reps tonight with the club (need someone to help me push the lactate a bit) and tomorrow, a 4000' local route. I do have some good stuff on my doorstep even if the likes of Clough Head is many miles away.

That'll give me 10,000' plus for the week and I will rest over the weekend (when the girls have plenty of stuff on to keep me occupied).

Welcome back to the BG section Stef. See you in May, if not before. You and Andrew doing the Four Inns?

I sympathise Ash... there is a road race I do annually that starts outside my front door, the Langley 7. It has been described as a fell race on tarmac and it is a tough one. What really makes me do it every year is my history of results. In successive years, I have done: 1.12 / 1.05 / 1.03 / 1.00.53 / 1.00.34 / 1.00.55 (after moving the finish back 200 yards)

See what I mean.... tantalisingly close to under an hour, but not quite there... When I do 0.59.59, then I shall retire from that race! Oh and the beer is good too!

But that is in November... have a proper taper... you know it makes sense... trotting round doesn't apply once the race starts!

    Be careful if you race!!!!!

    Remember these 3 things!!!

    1. The tee shirt probably won't fit, you've lost that much weight!!

    2. The beer is mine as you don't drink!

    3. Can you really let Bally Bally beat you? :w00t:

Reccing legs 3&4 from Seathwaite/Seatoller early(ish 8am) on saturday, currently we have more dogs than runners (2:1 ratio!?!). Also thinking of bimbling round leg 1 sunday morning, probably from a threlkeld start.

    Re: BG 2012 Recce's....

Recce'd Leg 1 again and did half of Leg 2 with folk from Macc... a bit of navigational ambiguity on Leg one and then a tentative explore of the parachute drop... (hmmm... not really for me) and then an amazing cup of tea (I kid you not... it was a simple cup of tea but berluddy gorgeous after a leg) and a bun with Phil Cheek at Threlkeld.

Considered what we were to do next ( as some car keys had gone AWOL ) and proceeded to Sticks Pass and down to Wythburn Church area.

A good day was had by all and the weather went from uncertain and cool to "oooh, look at the way the light catches that hill side".... followed by a mediocre rendition of Jerusalem (all very English) and very nice too.

Next week going up again on Wednesday / Thursday, if anyone would like to join us...?

We'll make precise plans nearer the time depending on who joins the happy throng.

25th May now getting pretty imminent but sticking to plan.

Anyone have a recommendation for B&B or other accomodation in Keswick area for two adults and three childen plus a spaniel?
