    Re: Edale Skyline 2012

So only those doing the championship should enter? I'd have thought that anyone that really enjoys fellrunning and fell racing would understand why us lowly runners that aren't 'championship standard' might like to run a good quality fell race! Its not about feeling a need to enter championship races for me, its about looking at my diary, looking for good quality races that will challenge me (but that I'm capable of finishing) and then entering them. Sorry that I won't be championship quality!

Surely the race should be on the fells, not to get to the entry in!

Nigel Jeff is on the list Ian. He has a tibial stress fracture that is healing but he is not doing any racing this year only training. He would like to offer his services for any pre-race route/radio checks like he did last year and also both of us are free to marshal on the day. We would like to take Winnie with us to help too so would you put us somewhere away from traffic so she can sniff about. We don't mind how remote as we have good warm gear. We are looking forward to it. Always some good running to see. Good luck everyone

    +1 to this!

Just to be clear I held some places back last year too.

in case anyone is interested in the 2013 race entry results 1st was Alex McVey. But well done for 8th and first lady - @1Emmilou!

and if I was even geekier than I am i'd cross reference the entry list with last years results. A quick scan reveals that Jasmine Paris was not only first lady in the actual 2012 (running) race she also did very well today! and is probably the winner in this newly invented entry/fell running biathlon!

*hopes that the cheeky grin on my face while typing this 'irony' is picked up and no one gets offended*

    Sue

thanks for that - sorry to hear he's injured...
I edited him off the list on the club website, but missed him there. Did you get in touch with Dave T, he is coordinating marshalls. I'm sure give you a good spot...

The same discussions were had last year and the race was neither a championship race or online entries - both factors that will result in it filling up quickly and this race is always busy anyway as its a classic race that follows a good route in the middle of the busiest national park.

I could be wrong, but I recall the SI system allowing you to register on behalf of other people - this may lead to some dodgy goings on by some, but you don't have to be immensely organised to beat the rush on this one.

    Just my tupenny bit.

I agree with Compo. It's one thing if you love a particular race and would've done it regardless, but the idea of entering a race just because it's a champs race seems odd to me. The chances are you won't be anwhere near the front runners at the start, middle or end. All you'll know is that you finished 500th in a champs race one day.

I bet a lot of people are relieved when they hear that their favourite races aren't champs races!

That said, I'm considering entering the Race to Enter next year.

I forgot that it was a championship race when I entered. I just wanted to do it because I'm training hard and thought it would be a good one for me. Sorry if that pisses anyone off! I'm usually a fairly competent fellrunner and tend to finish mid-pack overall and upper third of the women so hopefully I won't totally disgrace myself even if I'm a bit further back this time due to all the elite runners taking part. I'm looking forward to it.

    Wow.. quick fill up..

In the US. got up at 7:30 am and it was already full.

Put myself on the waiting list but unless I get in soon I won't be able to go it as I need to book flights...

Re Championship races for championship contenders.. nice idea but where do you draw the line? Any point scorer, what about vets, how many female/male places? Its just a huge can of worms..

Maybe fell running is now getting too popular for any race with a limit like this but whilst races have limits I can't see what choice there is other than a 'ready steady go?' entry system..

Look at Coledale last year, very strict entry system, a few peoples British Champs were over before they started, but it was an open process.

    Re: Edale Skyline 2012

Well I disagree with compo .... while agreeing with the organisers for putting some race entries aside. Compo almost went as far to say that us 'plebs' (okay he didn't say plebs, I'm just pretending he did) should not even dare enter championship races but instead leave them for our betters, which is of course bollocks. I entered Edale because it fills the gap perfectly between the HPM and the Fellsman and, more to the point, I love the race and the route. I didn't even know it was a championship race. And in any event it won't have filled up so quickly just because of it being a championship race (although that will have played a small part)- the peak district must have the highest concentration of fell runners in the world per square inch (what with Sheffield and Manchester both being on the door step) so such a classic route is always going to really popular.

And anyway with the SI registration its not beyond the wit of man for the organiser to do some pre-loaded registering of preferential runners straight off the bat, which is probably what has happened.
