Thread: Tigger Tor

    Re: Tigger Tor

Finally managed to do this one after 3 years of trying (injuries!). Really enjoyed it, good course and apart from the wind the weather was spot on. Apologies to the checker who found I had forgotten to pack my leggings - I didn't deliberately come without them but managed to borrow some to carry for the race. Pity the bacon butties had been packed away by the time I made the bar - must run faster next time or skip the shower (phew!). the mars bar from the bar wasn't the best substitute.

They didn't bother with the kit check last year, and despite 2 years of doing fell running, that was actually my first kit check - and yet nobody seemed to check me out.

I forgot to say, in case any of the marshalls read the forum, thankyou so much for standing out in that rotten wind, waiting for stragglers like me. As always, in particular the guy perched atop Houndkirk Hill (I swear he'd wrapped himself around a rock).

A good course yes, the Over Owler Tor checkpoint opens the course out a fair bit and gets rid of the zig zagging. I hope they'll stick with that same course next year.

By the way, does anyone know if the course was shorter this year or if there was less climb - I can't understand how I went round 5 minutes faster despite feeling rubbish, blowing up on every climb and stopping every two minutes to snort gunge out of my nostrils (I did check no one was behind at the time). The winners time was faster than last year - better weather?

    I hate heather!

Went over on my ankle coming off Higger Tor and again hacking through the heather near Parson House. Ended up stumbling to the finish in about 90 mins.

I though the first half of the route was classic. Great views over the Hope Valley. The second half was a bit of a slog.

One of the girls clocked it on her gps watch at just under 9 miles which would account for a fast time, but also the course was different from last year, with a more logical circuit of the Burbage valley. And besides, it was a following wind all the way home - makes you feel twice as good - comparatively...

Yes, you're right, a bit under 9 miles. I've only just worked this out because I stupidly left the watch running in my bag so it also recorded the distance home then it ran for 10 hours without moving in my kitchen.

I finally worked out how to clean the data up and I have it at 8.9 miles.

    Tigger Tor 2009

This will be first race for me. Bit of local advice appreciated
    1. Where does the route go from/to the moor/rugby ground? Not up the road surely? But there are GET ORF MY LAND signs everywhere else.
    2. Seems a wide gap between the winner and the back end in previous years. Is this a reflection of a very mixed field........or something else!
Any other hints tips etc greatly appreciated
