It looks impressive but there are plenty of mega-bright headtorches available if you want to spend a fortune on one. The question is, how much light do you need for night fellrunning? Not as much as you might need for night orienteering. Navigation on most fell routes is different; not as detailed, and with more handrails. The times when visibility is a problem are usually down to clag and more light is not the answer to that (still not sure what is).

Anyway, as I've said before, once you get too much light you start to lose the "atmosphere" of night running

I think the Myo XP 08 will be quite adequate, though it doesn't seem such a robust piece of kit as my trusty Duo.

Hey guys don't want to upset you folk that have just forked out a fortune for a Petzl but you've got to check this out. http://www.alpkit.com/gamma/.

After struggling on for a while with my ageing Tikka+ I've been looking for a new HT for this year's fellsman and the 3 peaks yacht race but knowing the manufacturing costs of these things couldn't help thinking Petzl were taking the p***. Then I saw this and thought at that price I have to try one. I ordered it one day got it 2 days later (no post and packing charge) and it's absolutely superb. A 1 watt main beam, 3 other forward facing 5mm leds and even a rear led on the battery pack - a really clever idea me thinks.

    Buy one!

And no I don't work for Alpkit but like what these guys are doing and this product is tremendous value for money.
