    Re: Rivington Pike

Having watched it today I couldn't help thinking I wish I was taking part. So next year it will be one for my diary. From the faces of some runners it looked very tough but must be a great feeling belting down once you have passed the summit.

I must say I had similar thoughts to Chris, and wasn't going to bother turning up. If it doesn't go up multiple summits in the Lakes/ Snowdonia it's just playing at it.

You get to Horwich, and the race has an immeadiate logic of it's own. The Pike dominates the town, and the urge to run up and down it becomes almost irresistible (though I did my best)

The amount of support from Horwich folk seems to indicate we're not the only ones to feel that way, and being part of a simple "first to the top and back" made me smile (after I stopped projecting phlegm and breathing through my fundament)

I didn't think the race would suit me (let's face it a 10 metre dash to the pie shop's about my limit), but I throughly enjoyed it despite hyerventilating on the descent like a cheap porn queen on the money shot. Still kept ahead of Ady, and DS must have stopped for ice creams

Didn't realise Fleeter beat the Coach by 4 seconds. Much rivalry there in the coming year

Im seriuosly gutted i couldnt do the race but my cold the better of me and i wouldnt have been able to run 100 meters let alone the 3 miles.
I only managaed to get 3 weeks training in anyway so i didnt have much confidence anyway.
So next year i will have been putting the training in and hopefully i will be there and doing ok.
Well done to everyone who did it today though, im jelous of you all ha.

There's still another 400 or so races for you to have a go at this year Fowler. Just get stuck in and try one. Doesn't matter about your placing or any of that guff, just enjoy yourself

well done guys and gals......was there at the finish...Ady if you heard someone shout....it was me my friend!! Disco gave you a clap too and Chris but hey I must have been in deep disguise blending in the background!!

Grand day out all the same....didn't go the pub Laurence had had enough of hanging around and the likelihood of getting him a crowded environment was pretty damn slim but great to be there and see some forumites faces even if they didn't see me!!!

Looks like I missed quite a few forumites today with the camera. Perhaps we should all wear an illuminous head band or something when racing or watching so we all know who to look out for.

Looks like I missed out on meeting lots of forumites today.

I was there with the Jolivers but only spoke to Pudgy and Fleeter.

Sorry Em, did not see you, was concentrating on the back of Pudgy's head trying to send mind messages about cramp or the stitch or similar

YOu could always try one of the Darwen Dashers races to get you off the mark - local and similar in many respects to the Pike race.
