Bloody hell, Joe. You must run really fast if you can cross Grindsbrook and Foxholes Clough and then run over both Upper and Nether Tors without even noticing!! Just try running really slowly on the bit just after Crowden Brook and watch out for the big boulders and it's sharp right!!

I thought it was almost straight on (whilst the path you are already on swings left)?

    Re: edale skyline

I notice on the latest instructions it says to follow the zig-zags to the finish.
Is this new as I had the impression you could short-cut on the way down?
On another point, I remember seeing last year's results with all the dibber times
but can't seem to find them now. Any ideas?

Since the Skyline route was altered a few years ago to ascend, then descend via Ringing Roger, it has always been the case (as far as I am aware) and mandated that we have to follow the zig-zags up and down.

In my experience, I have always been too knackered and brain dead at the end of this race than do anything other than follow the zig zags down!

I can confirm that zigzags are compulsory on the way down.

As Yorkie said look out for some large pointy boulders. Found this image- its not very big but you get the idea:

    Turn right just after.

MWS.... Great spot, especially by moonlight.... MEx2+
shame it's off piste (Skyline ways)....
agree with other following comments too...
a truly beguiling race/course, to be treated with respect....
map & compass, & skills to suit, essential requirements, local or Knott!
"old adage"... race begins @ Mam Nick!!!!
to true... keep plenty in the tank for the later moments..

Reccy early doors Sunday from Mam Nick, with some pfr/kfr folk if you fancy it, guess I'll be in bed still...

If you're a "just follow the person in front" navigator and didn't notice that Grindslow was an out & back you'd be happy enough following someone round the edge, then you could fail to spot them doing a right turn to Grindslow and instead latch on to someone coming back from Grindslow and then follow them all the way to Ringing Roger.

That's my theory anyhow, and somehow people manage to do it every year!

Is this image overlaid on your route map for handy reference? ;-)

Sounds interesting. What time? We (me and a few others) are hoping to get out mid-morning Saturday. If this doesn't happen for whatever reason I could be tempted to join the lovely Pennine folk, as long as Geoff isn't there...
