Can someone explain to me what the hell an egg stage is?!?!

There's a race within a race. There are basically 3 different laps/circuits: a middle sized one, a big one, and a baby one. So it's just like the three bears, only minus the bears.
The first person round mummy bear - doh, I mean the first lap - wins the egg stage.

Oh, and I should have mentioned: the winner gets an egg, rather than a bowl of porridge.

From what remains of my memory, I think at that point it was mainly cava and shiraz. Both are commonly available from off licences or supermarkets.
I would however caution against the perils and pitfalls of strong liquor.
