footwear...not done this one before but I have walked up there. given there's a couple of miles on road and its rocky most of the way up which of these would you run in?

From your list Mudclaws are the only choice.
Forget the road, if you don't have the grip when you need it, you might as well run in slippers.
I ran in Mizuno Harriers and it was one of the biggest mistakes I have made.
No traction going up and descending like a nancy, end result was 3hr 15mins.

i will have mudclaw 270s and also roclite 285s and see what the conditions are like first. I'm leaning towards the mudclaws but Inov 8 themselves recommended the roclite...
Fresh pair of Mudclaw 270s for me. I will need all the grip I can get whatever the weather.
