Re: Grin 'n' Bear it 2008

I was up Cut gate this am ...9ish and found the going very good, ran round res' and up Howden Clough, Margery and Outer to pick old Mickleden back to Langsett... have never seen so many mountain bikers...but like a peleton! I must say the advent of pavements here there and every where is really changing usage in the last 5 years!

Not that open country is just for fell runners..

Maybe Cutgate and Mickleden Edge ought to be a no - no for fell races due to the erosion etc....I remember the change of route for Mickleden as a result of this in years past.

From what I understand it is very difficult to insure search dogs as by definition they go in to hazardous areas and so are high risk. I believe we have found some sort of scheme but it has only partial cover although I don't know the details.

The wife's a vet and she says that none of the insurance companies will offer cover for working dogs for injuries incurred whilst working, be it sheepdogs, guide dogs or rescue dogs...

Can't do Grin n Bear It, I'll probably be out on the Sunday at Hope (like you Ian?). Get a donations box on the go there and I'll contribute

Bit unfair that, isn't it? They make a mint out of the domestic pet market so you would have thought they could spread some of it around to working dogs.

Toying it with it myself Graeme. Hmmm not sure if I could manage a 23 mile stroll more than a 15 mile run!

Ian..... I really am quite shit at navigation - as much as I try Am I going to get lost if I come up on my own and more importantly will you have some flap jack and jelly babies in the back of your boot at a random junction?!! It just wouldn't be the same without it!
