Very impressed with Alpkit Gamma. Obviously not in the Hope league but well made and probably similar performance to Mylo XP for £12.50. A bargain me thinks

I've got the Gamma and tested it out with my Myo xp (2008) last night.

If you want to try out running at night its a cheap way of doing it.
Its not as bright as the XP it is a close call though.

BUT it has a very tight beam, you can't pick out a line ahead and see where your feet are going

The beam width of the xp is over four times wider at 10m, when using the Gamma your field of vision plummets I can't believe anyone who uses an XP would use this on its own

Using it with the XP was a different matter though as its circle of light is very "clean" great for picking out the line ahead while the XP with the diffuser up was used for the closer stuff

I know that I may have mentioned cycle lights once in the dim and distant past and so am not absolutely pure BUT, c'mon, are'nt we getting just a little fixated with torches.
Britta is doing stirling stuff in a professional capacity but some of us are getting carried away - can we move onto something else like handbags or stockings or whether the 2009 XT levers are too long to use with barends - please?

Point taken about the narrow beam - I'd noticed that too. I'm thinking about trying a hand-held torch to compliment my Gamma

Spyros; both the TX1 Zoom & the X1 Pine appear to have a cracking spec on paper - better than the various manifestations of the Petzl Myo XP.
I think that £6.00 for the X1 Pine must be a misprint - I would guess that it is £60.00.
Lucido were the first LED headtorches on the UK market - just 7 standard 'old' super bright LED's - they were imported by OSC that owns RonHill, Mountain Equipment & SprayAway. I bought one back in '01. Only fault was that there did not appear to be much spring steel in the various switch contacts and they continually needed 'tweaking', as did the battery contacts ( possibly of Italian origin - their auto electrics can be dubious). I could live with my soldered up & botched up 'special' but as I was down to navigate leg 5 of Baggins' BG in Sept, and did not want to let him down, I treat myself to a Black Diamond Icon; so no more headtorches for me, this winter!

Oh, OK then.
Shedding a little personal light, I too have an Icon and it does the job a treat with rechargeables fitted. Because they are not that fashionable they are also often reduced on the web. Not that robust tho so if you get one it probably won't last, meaning that next winter we start the thread again, hoorah!
