I would live on a narrowboat tommorow but Aj isnt so keen.
It just seems the perfect way to leave the rat race that Britain is rapidly becoming.
I work my arse off each week and these knobheads just keep taking more off me.
Its taken us 20 years to just about pay our mortgage off and I cannot see how the next generations can afford it so Im willing to buy a boat and pass on our house to my son because i cannot see him being able to afford anywhere.
Perhaps a bit radical but what the hell are our kids gonna do

I read your post about this morning but couldn’t find it tonight to post.

My dads mate was after a narrow boat last year because he cant afford to buy his own house and lives with his brother at the age of something like 35?
He worked it out that it would be cheaper to buy a brand new boat that is not yet fitted and do it himself. My dad and I where going to do it for him and it would have saved him a bomb compared to buying brand new or even second had.
So that’s worth looking at as it shouldn’t be too difficult to make a narrow boat inhabitable from a shell (it comes with the engine), especially as your in a trade of sorts yourself.
Im going off memory here but i think he would have saved 2/3 of the price fitting it out rather than buying it ready to move it.

    But it never happened.

daz h if you need any boat advice then I know a man with one who can advise, my dad hey actually, if you wanted to take AJ for a little holiday on it to tempt her then you would be more than welcome - it is primitive compared to some that you can get that are like houses and hooked into the mains, but has got all you need, cooker, hot water, shower, wood burning stove etc the advantage of being in the Yorkshire Dales so you can go out the door and be fell running within minutes

He did a version of what Al Fowler has talked about - he didn't buy a new one, but bought a fairly run down one, with few facilities for a bargain and then has done it up and it's worth double now

    Re: Quiet Around Here

He doesn't let it out on a commercial basis or anything, but friends are welcome to use it in exchange for a bottle of wine or some posh chocs! - it's lovely emmi - only 3 berth though, so you could maybe palm off the kids for a couple of nights on their grandparents or something and take hubby

Slammer is not so bad really, my brain is slowly being filled with geekiness and am finding myself wanting to build an amplifier or something i think the reward for completetion is a pair of sandals and socks and a stick on beard

How are you anyway? Any races planned? I need to get some in my diary
