And on the witton front - i asked whether leg 2 was hard. He said not for us fell runners.
So i said something along the lines of i should tie my hands behind my back and hop on one leg to make it harder.
Come on now Al -you said

    Hi Al

I think Mick has asked me to ru that leg with you. I ran it last year so will dig out a map etc. Can't remember our time but can look it up. I can certainly remember the first 3/4 of it.
Are you running at Fulwood tomorrow night?

Leg 1 has all the gates. Better running it than doing the MTB Sportive, as it becomes a bit of a bind, opening and closing them all.

Do what i did at the Roaches with my cramp - -Just run at the gate, wait for your stomach/chest to hit the top of the gate and then use yur momentum to fall over the gate. It worked a treat.

    Re: Pennine Bridleway Relay

This is new for 2009 from the website!

Gates left open on the 2008 event.
We have received complaints from farmers/landowners about runners leaving gates open in the Hurstwood/Cant Clough areas (Legs 1 and 2)This has resulted in previously seperated diseased sheep mixing with healthy sheep. This has lead to a possible claim for compensation, a call for future events to be called off and our organisation being called into question which is upsetting after all of the work we put in. This despite a plea at the start for runners to close all gates at all costs. Runners who cannot close gates are not welcome at our events, after all how difficult is it ?. We rely on the goodwill of farmers and landowners and we now have bridges to rebuild thanks to a few mindless individuals.
New rule added for 2009 to say that runners observed leaving gates open will lead to the disqualification of the whole ream !

    Re: Pennine Bridleway Relay

I don't know if the organisers check out this forum - I know there are some Rossy on here, but I would suggest the use of a sweeper on the problem legs to make sure that gates are closed.

As a runner, if I was 30 metres in front of someone, I would normally leave the gate open - if I were to do this, every other runner then can be absolved of responsibility as they can claim the gate was already open!

You can imagine 80 teams going through a gate all within 4 minutes of each other half way through the first leg.
That's 1 pair every 3 seconds - not feasible, realistic or courteous to close gates but any team is risking DQ by not doing so.
