All righty let's suggest a date and a location and start an argument and lose interest.

First sat or sun in May, Edale? Easy to get for those who have cars and those (prob only me) who uses public transport.

Could be interesting. Suspect that a wide range of abilities, experience and aspiration lies in the term "beginner" though I stand by what I said needing to learn - note there is another thread elsewhere about coaching.

    Who's up for it?

May okay, but where is Edale? i cannot read a map to save my life!

Hear a whisper its 21 miles, err not sure i can do even half of that by then!

Bliss you are thinking of the Edale Skyline, which I am not though that is my porksportsplan for 2010 having walked the route many times.
No just based at the village of Edale. Many possibilities for routes.
My suggestion for an opener would be
Paths/track to Nether Booth, along road to track cross jaggers clough, then gate near Hope Cross, then up via that lone tree to just sw of Crookstone Knoll then along the edge to Ringer Rog and down. Nothing too steep up, interesting descent from Rog for those of us who find going down the tricky bit, easy to escape if it all goes horribly wrong, easy to extend if it all goes horribly right.
Get the dark peak OL1 map and pop out there for a walk beforehand would be my suggestion
