I went round the route yesterday to Cock Hill road crossing and back. The course was Calf to knee deep with snow most of the way. Took over two hours to do just under 8 miles - fun!

Hopefully some of it will have melted by Saturday because some people will be having a long day out if it hasn't.

So, the winning time should be around 2 days?

I'm doing it regardless, footprints will be about 5'7" deep, if you see a hole with a bright, shiny round thing in it, please pull me out

    Hi all

The Trog and Half Trog are ......... ON!!

As was said earlier the cancellation in 07 was because marshalls couldn't get out of their houses in some cases, let alone to places like Cock Hill, so counting runners through and accounting for them couldn't happen.

This year there is a lot of snow on the moors, drifted deep in places and now frozen hard. The softer bits tend to be over the stream beds which wake up the feet as you go through the snow!

Please car share to Old Town where possible and there will be thorough kit checks definintly including leg cover and maps (of the right area of the country as well)

see you all bright and earlier on Saturday
    Ben

    Re: Wadsworth Trog

Just run the Withins race route, the stretch from the Stoop (where the boundary wall finishes) to Top Withins is still covered with snow, though there is some evidence of foot steps most of this have been obliterated by drifting and the ditch that runs alongside the footpath on the r hand side is full of snow(about 3ft deep) and difficult to pick out. The dog and I fell in a couple of times (up to her neck and past my dangly bits - it's cold).

Also the Pennine way from Top Withins to the reservoirs has also had most foot prints wiped clean and the ditches either side are full of snow as well , which will make ankle turning a posibility as you cannot pick out the path or the rock bridges at times and again I went over a couple of times.

To add to this the boggy, marshy areas are not frozen, just covered with snow and a thin ice layer so expect to go in up to your knees every now and then.

Hope you enjoy tomorrow, no doubt much of Ilkley Moor will be the same.
