No serious damage to bike or body though.

Not nice when that happens, in my cycling days, same happened to me slipped on ice at the start of a 60m training session. Dented my helmet, did session, went to work threw up and sent to A& E with concussion.

Did the same last dec cycling from Leicester to brum but only managed to tear my trousers and rip a hole in my cycling shoe.

    Re: Todays Injuries

This happened to me a few weeks ago - came off my bike cycling to work.

Skinned the side of my chin, hands and knee. It wrecked my hat - had to buy a new one, and took the knee out of my over trousers. I turned up at work a shaking wreck with bleeding face. Had to suffer the indignity of an email sent to 150ish colleagues warning of the dangers of icy roads and pavements.

The next day I ached all over - couldn't lift my left arm and am still getting an ache in my knee.

    Still cycling to work though

    Talking Re: Todays Injuries

Just thought I would enlighten you all.

Been struggling with knee trouble over the past few weeks so as I was getting more and more depressed at not running I ended up even more depressed after parting with £48 to see a physio this morning. "You're not the worst I have seen" was the phrase she used.

Good news is that she says my knee is very solid however the pain I am getting is probably due to my muscles being too tight and they are probably pulling my knee cap out of place which is why I'm getting the pain. It's my own fault as I never stretch and I know I should do.

Also my right quad was very weak, hence she reckoned that my knee would be taking more of the impact on the hills so she recommended I join a gym to work that quad up by doing Leg extensions and leg presses.

So I came away with a sheet of stretchs to work on, a lighter wallet, a £37 follow up next week booked in and a dilema about spending more money to join a gym to tone up the quad. I wonder how many one month trials I could work through.

I though running was a cheap sport??

Let's hope I feel better soon, it's depressing me paying out money!!!

Seems to be a stock answer for any knee problems!! Doesn't make it less right though, I guess. I'm undergoing the same recovery regime as well. Need to get quite disciplined in getting into the habit of stretching even when you're not running. Which reminds me...*stretches*

Just glad it's nothing more serious and fixable. I'd b gutted if I had to stop running in the hills. I'd probably give up!!!

Be prepared for a couple of fales starts. If you're like me, you'll take the first couple of pain-free days as the cue to go out for a long run to make up for lost time, and then you're back to square one.

Take it easy, and all the best!

You don't need to join a gym... you could just do squats (preferably as slowly as you can) with/without weights. Maybe try out a martial arts club and see what leg exercises they do. If you consider the cost per use of the gym will it be worth it or could you get better results for the same/less money?
Having said that I am using the gym whilst I get my fitness back and am doing leg presses (260kg, which is the equipments limit) but then it only cost about £110 for the whole year! (Why not become a student?!!)

    Re: Todays Injuries

We used to have a local gym that was about £100 for the year but that's gone now. The Council gym is £19 month for Off-peak membership (I work from home so can be flexible) or £25 month however with that I also get free entry to the pool which I use with the kids at the minute anyway.

    I'm weighing it up anyway

    Strain or tear?
I strained what I thought was my calf a few weeks ago but it turned out to be my Soleus so with specific stretches and some TLC I had just 8 days of no running. A proper diagnosis will put you fully in the picture.
