    Anyone eat malt loaf?

I found an awesome recipe, low fat and all, which has horlicks/ovaltine in. i have it all sliced up, bagged and in the freezer. i get out slices at a time with a big grin on my face.

Afraid I can't be arsed to write up the recipe - unless anyone is particularly keen - i just wanted to share my culinary happiness.

I hope that this is acceptable.

Alreet! But divvn't shout at us like that...

    12oz wholewheat self raising flour
    pinch salt
    3 tbsp ovaltine
8 oz brown sugar (that granulary stuff is best - demerara?)
8oz dried fruit (sultanas for me)
1/2 pint milk (semi- its the only way)

grease and line a 2lb tin. oven on gas 3. mix ingredients together for a wee while. bake for 1.5 to 2 hours. Stick a thingy in to see if it comes out clean. That sort of thing. i usually sit it in oven for 1.5 hours is enough. i sit outside the oven and read good housekeeping.

Auntie's Apple, Apricot & Pear Cake

This is very simple, not healthy and no good for the fells....

    12oz Self Raising floor
    6oz Caster sugar
    6oz Margarine
    3 eggs
    2 chopped apples
    2 chopped pears
    1 cup chopped apricots
    a little milk

Mix all ingredients together, place in cake tin and bake at 190 deg C for 1 hour, reduce over to 160 deg C for 20 mins...done

If you forget the eggs it is a bit stoddgy but it is get-away-with-able, not that I forget them

    1tsp mixed spice
1 heaped tbsp cocoa powder - decent stuff like green and blacks
    3 eggs
    walnuts - optional
    choc chips - optional

cream butter and sugar, add eggs, mash banana, add to mix wack in all the other bits and bobs but sieve flour
it will look all sloppy but that's the idea!
pour into a large ggreased cake tin
bake gas4 160 degrees for about an hour but check after 50 minutes
Doing this with the kids this afternoon..........Mothers Day is going to be sooooo special for my wife this year .
