Thank you Wynn and Steve for another grand day out. Catbells felt every bit of steep a sit looks on the photo Geoff (and yes I do know the picture is on its side). Had a lovely walk down to the church in Littletown afterwards with the family and stopped off for tea and lemonade and the carparking fee was a bargain.

I took a few photos around the route:

Mainly on the climbs, as it's easier to use the camera when walking!

What a fantastic day. Thanks to all the organisers and marshalls, and to the weather.

    Re: Anniversary Waltz

    Well what a weekend eh!

Don’t really know where to start - well i haven’t to do any spelling mistakes according to Mr Weezing Donkey - who has now coincidently started calling me "Dave Fowlup".........Fowlup and dont know why and Dave because either dementia of alcohol hit him this morning. haha

The walk up the grassy slope to Robinson nearly killed me, but once we got to the top and set up the super-duper Felll Pony flag it was reet.
My god taking the times of everyone is chaotic.....didn’t manage to take any photos of runners or hand out any cake or flapjacks.......p.s to merry......sorry if i sounded like i snapped at you about not nicking all the drink because it was Emma’s.....realised i had a flippin spare bottle of water in my bag a few hours later and you could have taken that round with you.

Wogger Wabbit decided it was game over on the CP and stayed with us and then swept the course with us whilst we stuck with the last but very nice Ilkley Lady who we ran/jogged/walked the entire course with until the finish.

What weather though, my neck is on fire from sunburn.

What happened to Daz H and Emmi's calve?

Mudlugger.....i did shout you on Robinson but you just ran past oblivious, good to see all the other ponies out!

Oh and for Daz H, a 2009 version of Mr Village Hall Floor Sweeper.

Yeah, Robinson sent me into a spin, I was probably just relieved to make it to the top eh. Cant hear much with my sweat soaker on my head, although I did take it off on Maiden Moor ready for my descent only to realise I wasn't on Catbells, boy it got hot and yes, my shoulders and neck are burnt.
Glad you enjoyed the jog round Al, hope those knees held out.

Yes, it was a great day, including for those not racing.

I walked up to Dale Head Tarn with one of the kids; left at 11.00 and get there about 5 minutes before the leaders came down Dale Head.

Fascinating to watch the various route choices.

I now wonder about the alleged Borrowdale "Magic Line", the straight line off the top.

The first 5 at the Tarn (Morgan, Jim, Ben, Ricky and Gary) all came left off the top for a few hundred feet, then cut down down on grass towards the path then stayed left of the path on grass until the rocky area just before the stream crossing. I can't say no-one else came this way because with dishing out drinks it was hard to keep an eye on events all the time but it felt that way. Judging by the speed of descent, it was good running pretty much all the way.

There was a fair gap between Gary and sixth and then the routes seemed to come in clumps or groups; folk following a leader perhaps.

The main lines were the direct route which brings you out top side of the Tarn and the route left of that which bears left of the rocky area and then swings right to get to the stream crossing.

There was even a fourth route; straight between the two referred to above which had folk coming straight through the rocky area which the two routes
    otherwise avoid.

    So which is fastest?

Well done to all the runners. I really felt for you as I sat on top of Robinson, eating jelly babies and soaking up the sun. Honest

Yeah, to be fair, the farmer bumped it up when he saw that his fields were wet and thought he'd have to bring in contractors to make it right again (the weather was horrendous on Thursday, and it was still raining on Friday morning). Any money he doesn't spend repairing damage (most of it, as it happens) he donates to charities of his choice (Leukemia and athritis, I think). The farmer doesn't personally keep a penny of it, which seeing he's been working hard moving sheep into and out of fields, to accomodate us lot is pretty decent. Hopefully it'll also encourage us to car share, and keep the impact on the valley and our fuel bills down.

On a similar note, I swept the route with Fowlup and Woger, in the company of the lovely Sharon, and we didn't find a single bit of litter, which is pretty encouraging really. Presumably, not only are runners not dropping stuff themselves, but other runners are picking up the accidental escapees and even walker's rubbish. Somebody had even picked up Fleeter's old washer. Given that fell races in the lakes are being looked at with a critical eye at the moment, it's all to the good.

Anyone knows if the results from the Anniversary Waltz are on the net. Are there any photos from the race.
