You know any races. I could be old enough to die for my country yet i cant do a fell race over 6 miles. Races should be judged on experience maybe one year only allowed to do shorts, one year mediums, one year longs that would be a fair way of deciding who is fit to run a race. I hate the fact that an 80 year old who is being hunted down by the grim reaper can run a fell race yet a fit 16 year old cannot. No wonder the talent is drying up.

Some of the 80 year olds could probably outrun the grim reaper! (but I do agree with your point)

I'm not passing judgement on you TurboTom, but when I was 16 I was a bit of an idiot; I would probably have killed myself on the longer races by not making sensible decisions in poor weather conditions and the like.
I know that not every youth is going to make poor decisions in these circumstances, but event organisers have certain responsibilities, especially where under 18s are concerned.
All I can say is have patience; My 16 to 18 years passed in a blur, so I'm sure yours will too. You'll soon be wishing the time back!
As for these 80 year olds, I think that probably everyone on this forum finds their tenacity highly commendable. Besides, they ought to be allowed to have lots of running practice to enable them to outrun the grim reaper!

Better try to give you advice rather than jip then, hadn't I?
Now let me think. Advice. What kind of advice? Hmm.
I've got it, practice running up lots of hills!

Seriously though, my local hills that I train on are no more than about 600 feet high and I didn't find the full Welsh 1000m course too taxing. You should be alright. Just make sure you include regular long sessions in your training, possibly by running up and down the same hill several times by different routes. It's not ideal for these long climbs, but you have to make the best of a bad situation.
