Well erm that was erm different

I decided that getting to 7th after the climb up to winter hill was much to unfair on the rest of the runners so a few of us decided to add a couple of miles onto the race and head towards Bolton.

I have never been dead-last in a race before but i can say i have now.......once i finally found my way to two-lads i was expecting everyone to have gone home but the last place runners came through and said he heard a few had gone wrong somewhere

Saw some amazing scenery whilst on my extended route, and came across some game-keepers training some young black lab pups...they looked at me as if i was the first runner they'd seen with a race number...by that time the four runners near me came together we all stopped at once and looked at each other..."we've f*cked up here haha"

Got my value for money though eh.

So you're going on the next nav course then?

I was in the group behind the bunch that headed off towards Bolton. I thought the last marshal before the confusion was pretty clear - 'keep the wall on your right'. So when it turned a corner, so did we. However, I'd done the race before so I knew where to go.

I do think a few flags on that corner would have helped, but hey it's a fell race so where's your map and compass?

Im trying to work out where exactly we did carry on and not turn right........we did keep the wall on our right for a very long time....until you come to a sort of crumbled bit where the kidney shaped bit of water is.

I think i need someone to hold me hand next year.

But anyway, cheers to all the Lostock crew for the race, nice evening for a race!

Must admit Al it was nice 'beating' you I did wonder why your mum was still at the pigeon tower but didn't think to ask.

Bit of a disaster all round for the Harrier posse but hey, it was a lovely night for the midges!!!

Photo's to follow...Michael took hundreds but is passing the camera to Hopey today so he will no doubt sort it

cheers to all my old Lostock chums, lovely to see you and thanks to mark and his scouts too and also thanks to the nice man dishing out freebies!!

    Re: Hendersons End

I think Lostock had about 5 marshals up on Winter Hill, so I don't think they could have done any more. No accounting for ineptitude eh, Al?

Still you're obviously running well, and the knees survived, so pretty encouraging for your next outings.

Good little race, that one, with some potentially fast running (a potential thouroughly unexplored by me!). There seemed to be a little bit of confusion about where the race route was meant to go onthe top of Winter Hill, so maybe a map of the route would have helped. But thanks to Lostock and all the helpers.

I agree. I've done this race 3 times now and there's been a different route around the masts each time.

Still enjoyed it though. Good race!

    Re: Hendersons End

We have to change the route round the mast due to the work going on, hopefully once the mast goes digital the fences should go down and it should be back to running passed George Henderson memorial.

We don't really want to have to flag the whole course as it is after all a fell race

We're taking everything on board what everyone is saying and we'll try and make sure people don't get lost next year.

Thanks to everyone that turned up, numbers are growing every year for this race.

Congratulations to Blackrod Lad for winning the mens race.
