Can I ask perhaps a stupid question:

is racism illegal ?

Don't think so: you can dislike whoever you want regardless of the basis of that hatred (e.g. race, colour). This is where the existence of parties like the BNP are protected by the right to free speech.

But to act on those beliefs to discriminate, abuse - physically/verbally - harass, incite violence...that's when the law gets involved. And also where it gets a bit murky to say the least for the BNP.
