Sorry to hear about Rhayader - always seems to be a problem getting people to commit to help.

sorry to hear about this
I was umming and ahing between Rhayader and Moors The Merrier, so hadn't entered in advance
will you be trying again next year?
might it be worth starting a separate "Save The Rhayader Mountain Trail" thread to get pre-entries up?
I would deffo pre-commit right now to run/marshal![]()
11.30 - I mailed the organiser to clarify.
Molehill - Is it a case of there being a bit too much on at about the same time in the same area. With Malvern just gone, Caerphilly summits this weekend, and the RAWW a cople of weeks ago, thats four 30+ mile off road events in the mid/south wales area within a month. There aren't that many people who would be up for this sort of thing in the area. If it could be perphaps early or late summer there may be greater uptake? When the Likeys guys ran a December 40 mile event it sold out in a few days. If you do decide to run it again I'd be happy to help out marshalling, etc as we don't want to loose local events.
I think the Rhayader date was in August last year wasn't it?
that was better for me than mid-July, as I've got kids
August I could combine the event with a family weekend-break/longer hols
July I need brownie points for an away-day![]()
The RMT has been going for years, guess I ran in it first 15 years ago? Was always traditionally in May, before the braken and tussocks grew too bad, and flies started. Then we moved it later because everyone wanted to do 'pre-hundred' 50s in May, so yes, dates been changed a bit over the years, but never made much difference as it's always been a struggle to get people to Mid Wales. Winter is a great time for ldwa events as everyone wants something then, runners and walkers alike are training rather than racing. Over the years have also lost Nev's Mid Wales mountain Marathon from Dinas Mawddy to Dolgellau (that was great in April over Cadair), his Reservoir roundabout went - now resurrected by Carl Edwards, who in fact started the RMT all those years back. Always been a battle though, and a long winter event over the Elan, great but, just imagine where everyone would end up in bad weather
, difficult enough getting some of the numpties round on a fine summer day.
No doubt it will be discussed later in the year.
I remeber the very first Rhayader Mountain Trail that was run in (I think) November (anyway a pretty wintery month)- It is the only event where I have deliberately left out a check point as my mate Jim and I struggled in the fog over the Rhiw Saeson descending some very steep bouldery slopes and decided that if we wanted to get home in the limited daylight - or indeed that week - we had better miss out Drum Ddu. It also had a check point near Llanerch Cawr that involved fording a river that was quite deep and wet on that particular day, checking in, having a glass of squash and a biscuit and then recrossing to the bank you started from. Ah those were the days when challenge events were real challenges.
just posted entries for myself and Lady Slugge for the Dovedale Dipper
anybody else doing it?
or done it in the past and handy hints...?
