I think its you and me on that leg then BIll, I have found a greater love for rocks since Saturday.![]()
South Rhinogs is the nicest bit I've done. Mainly short grass running after a nasty gorse section getting out of Barmouth.
Cader was nice, final steep descent a bit of a knee breaker. Not done much of the rest, done most of the summits individually, but very few, almost none of the inbetween stuff.
Sometime in the next few months I shall try to head for Rhobell Fawr/Dduallt forest with my handsaw and handbill, and have a poke about there for a decent way in and out. Well I was a forester for 8 years, so guess that's my sort of thing, may be pushing it a bit to turn up with the chainsaw (and I certainly ain't carrying it up there).
Think I've been over virtually the whole route once (couple of very short bits I've missed), and know much of it pretty well, there's something for everyone - bogs and rocks - so fight amongst yourselves as to who does what.
Rocky sections:
Cader (Mynydd Moel / Cadair / Cyfrwy)
Rhinogs (Carn Gorllwyn then from Diffwys to Roman Steps)
Arenig Fawr, Aran Benllyn & Fawddwy
Much of the rest is runnable, often grassy, sometimes boggy. Often you need to know where the trods are.
Sections that aren't: bits of Migneint (especially Duck Pool to Arenig Fach); just after Llyfnant (ditch-hopping, good for inducing cramp); just after Afon Lliw crossing; bits of the section from Rhobell Fawr E to the Bala road. Less than 10% of the whole.
Moley, keep me posted as to when you might be "off into the forests". I've never been a professional forester, but do bits of hedging etc on friends' farms. I did some pruning in Beddgelert Forest, so that Chris Reade, on his PB, could use Yiannis route over "the ancient stile".
Can't promise to be there, all depends on the "domestic diplomacy" situation!
