Some interesting points Anti-social.

I'm not going to try and go anywhere as deep as you do.

But the forum does tend to self-police itself very well - I've privately "ticked off" one or two on here who have strayed too far.
If you post - you have to be prepared to accept criticism / comment - but not abuse.

On the "vari" phobic point though, I just think there is too much sensitivity around in society today created by the PC brigade.
A wealthy and successful businessman can be called a fat cat and have his snout in the trough.
An individual who yearns for some of the qualities that abounded in society 30+ years ago can be labelled a small minded little Englander.

But take the mickey out of a homosexual, muslim, Irish, Jew and your castigated.

As I was away from home on Wednesday, I tried to find something to watch on the TV in my hotel.
I came across "Taking the Flak" on BBC.

It should be renamed Taking the Piss!

Not one laugh - it was dreadful - but this is what we deserve as we have run down the varied comic talents we had.

This PC Society has taken away the laughter from society and it's about time people learnt to laugh again, whether they were being laughed at themselves or laughing at others.

I can't say that the comments 'upset' me however they did concern me enough to add my voice to the couple of members who had been ridiculed for challenging the supposedly funny anti gay comments. My concern is about how we may inadvertently through our 'banter' exclude people. Imagine you were a young (gay) man and had been posting here regularly. You had made virtual friends with others here and then the 'banter' started- how do you imagine you would feel as you arrived for the Borrowdale race? Would you feel welcome? Might you stay for the do? I doubt it. From the other point of view- you are a forum regular; had been having a laugh and everyone had enjoyed the banter. You were looking forward to the race and the do. Perhaps you might meet young 'Thingy' from the forum you'd got to know him quite well and were looking forward to buying him a pint. Afterwards you thought: "Funny 'Thingy' never turned up he seemed quite keen."
We should be proud that the forum is self regulating and I hope this helps keep it like that.

Well made point HP - but if you really analyse that then the likelihood is that the Borrowdale will be contested by only homosexual, cross dressing, immigrant Muslims with dandruff.

as the normal man (and woman) in the street will have been insulted and ridiculed so much that they are living in a cupboard at the Eddystone Lighthouse and frightened to come out.

But part of my point was makes the comments in question "anti gay" and who is decides. If they had been as blatant as "homosexuality is bad" I could understand that they were "anti" but is stereotyping the same?

It seems to me that the most vociferous critics of PC are Daily Mail reading small minded little Englanders, and I don't consider myself PC but i do think that if you are engaging in banter about sexuality or race or other issues that people may find sensitive or be offended by then you need to put your brain in gear before you speak, not like what I do. Now I'm tempted to resubmit the post I put on the Borrowdale thread a few minutes ago but deleted because I didn't have the bottle to leave there, but also because after reading HP's excellent post I thought better of it (and didn't want to get into trouble).
