    Re: Asthma

I stopped taking those horrid little mind altering toffees that the nurse gave me. The dodgy not myself feeling has gone away and the nightmares have stopped. Just sweet dreams now.

Going off the side effects Detritrious has listed I would "rather not", "just say no" and all that. I'll stick to the mushrooms, thanks totally organic and a natural high .

I have just got back from 2 days walking in the lakes and although it was very slow paced due to my mates cracking out the stove and having a brew every half hour. Never needed my reliever, and we did some fairly steep climbs. So thats one plus,

I have also just done a flat forty five minutes and felt fine. My peak flow before I started was about 490, and when I had finished it was 450. Still quite low but. Hey its not the drops I have been experiencing, and I never felt in any danger.

Hopefully I have turned the corner now, Im hoping its not the effects of the Montelukast still in my system. Its been 5 days and I only took 4 days worth.

So Im hoping Im gonna be able to have a good two weeks training and then perhaps jog round the anniversary waltz somewhere near the back.

    Cheers
    Jamie

    Re: Asthma

Hopefully this will be my last post on this thread and I can start paying a bit of attention to the races section of this forum and not just the health thread.

I have just managed a reasonanbly fast paced run and got through it unscathed. My PF before was 490 and my PF now is 440. Still quite low on the old PF's but I can work on those with the power breathe.

Without meaning to sound melodramatic here I'd just like to pass on a quick thanks to everyone who has posted advice on this thread. I really appreciate it, hopefully this thread will be useful for others in the future and if I meet any of you at races the pints are on me.

    Cheers
    Jamie

Almost coming worth coming down south for!

Glad you're feeling better m8 - I told you you'd get there! Just keep on top of it and you'll be back to optimal quite soon.

Feel free to email/pm me if you're struggling ever again...

    Cheers,

    Derek.

    Cheers Derek,

I just want to get those normal peak flows up really, thanks for your advice and stuff its helped a lot. I just dont think my asthma was very well controlled I never used the brown long term inhalers it was always blue and only when I needed it. So i'll probably feel better in a few months.

Let me know when your racing down south and w'ell have a pint.

    Cheers

Really pleased to hear you're feeling better Helly. Mine has levelled out and, apart from the tonsillitis last week, I've only needed the blue reliver just before running or cycling and one blast on the brown each night before bed (down from four a day). I'm also pumping the powerbreather in the hope that is will help. Mark.

    Thanks for that Mark,

I'm currently on a purple preventer, Im gonna try and get that back down to a brown. Im out for a run tonight on the fells. So looking forward to it.

Just a question of getting my fitness back up now, the three peaks is out of the question this year. (cant do it on two weeks training), but thats good because there is no pressure on me now.

I can build up to a race later in the year, and enjoy a few of the shorter evening races. Im just happy to be running again. Im gonna keep blasting the power breathe as you say. See if that does any good in a month or so. Have you had pretty good result form this ha sit improved your peak flow.

    Cheers

I found the power breather beneficial and it has helped me reduce the medication and generally made my lungs feel stronger. Could be psychological I suppose but as long as I feel better I don't care!!!
