GPS questions

As with most people who have one, I just use my Garmin 205 to record the race or training run (especially good after night runs to see where I actually went). Wouldn't really want to use it for navigation - what would be the fun in that?, although I must admit to using it a couple of times in the clag during an O event yesterday to estimate distances run, e.g., I expect to come across a stream in 1/4 mile.

Mostly actively use it during road races for pacing.

True, then take a bearing on a map, using a compass and navigate to where you want to go.

some GPS come with a magnetic compass built in but I always carry my map and compass.

...this GPS malarky....I agree with Yannis....I know technology is all around us but surely we ought to consider what made us seek the wild places in the first place..science v craft/art...what do you prefer?? discuss.

Absolutely. I am against all forms of technology when out in the hills. I only ever run barefoot, and wearing the skins of indigenous animals.

...I never pre-enter a track from the map as this can be so inacurete as to be useless in a tricky area in the dark.
