    It's brilliant! It has become a daily treat and worth staying up late for too, a great way to unwind. I'll ask my pal to send some more. He is a good writer generally and loves poetry. He once drip fed me 'Flannan Isle' over about ten emails.

    Brilliant DT, both funny and clever.

    And I love Old Whippet's morning haiku..."feet in morning mist. Tops in apricot sky"...gorgeous.

    What a great way to start the day.

    Can you come and do my ironing please DT

    Not been on here for a few days... and busy now so will read back tonight.

    Just came accross some Rumi though and wanted to share:

    Make me sweet again,
    fragrant and fresh and wild
    thankful
    for any small event

    I died from minerality and became vegetable;

    And From vegetativeness I died and became animal.

    I died from animality and became man.

    Then why fear disappearance through death?

    Next time I shall die

    Bringing forth wings and feathers like angels;

    After that, soaring higher than angels -

    What you cannot imagine,

    I shall be that.

    Rumi

    Re: Today's poet

    An appropiate Robert Burns poem.

    Yon Wild Mossy Mountain

    Yon wild mossy mountains sae lofty and wide,
    That nurse in their bosom the youth o' the Clyde,
    Where the grouse lead their coveys thro' heather to feed,
    And the shepherd tents his flock as he pipes on his reed.

    Not Gowrie's rich valley nor Forth's sunny shores
    To me hae the charms o' yon wild, mossy moors;
    For there, by a lanely, sequester'd stream,
    Resides a sweet lassie, my thought and my dream.

    Amang thae wild mountains shall still be my path,
    Ilk stream foaming down its ain green, narrow strath;
    For there wi' my lassie the lang day I rove,
    While o'er us unheeded flie the swift hours o' love.

    She is not the fairest, altho' she is fair;
    O' nice education but sma' is her share;
    Her parentage humble as humble can be;
    But I lo'e the dear lassie because she lo'es me.

    To Beauty what man but maun yield him a prize,
    In her armour of glances, and blushes, and sighs?
    And when Wit and Refinement hae polish'd her darts,
    They dazzle our een, as they flie to our hearts.

    But kindness, sweet kindness, in the fond-sparkling e'e
    Has lustre outshining the diamond to me,
    And the heart beating love as I'm clasp'd in her arms,
    O, these are my lassie's all-conquering charms!
    Ne'er fail in old Scotland!

    Oak....part one

    an oak on the high ground
    the unfurlment of spring long gone
    half golden, half bare
    life and death
    inevitable bedfellows
    enclosed in unison
    by sinewy branches

    overlooking the sky
    bruised slowly
    by stratus
    wondering with soft eyes
    what dormant buds
    will enliven in the spring

    That's lovely. There's an old oak I can see from here, so that is just perfect for today. The air is just so still here, and all the trees are hanging onto their leaves for as long as they can.
