    Re: Todays Injuries

I've had two bad, long term experiences with shin splints, both brought on by running on hard surfaces and (I believe) an overlength stride resulting in heavy heel striking.
I agree with Ady in that the pain eminates from the centre of the shin. To me it felt like the front of my shin was being pushed against a round metal bar such as an iron ladder rung. At first it felt like just bruising, but built up week by week until each step was making my eyes water.
I had minor problems on and off for years until I changed my running style and haven't suffered since (fingers crossed).
In all cases though the pain was purely concentrated on the centre to lower half of the shin and to be honest I didn't have any trouble with the knee at all.
    Hope it clears up soon.
    Ian.

Thanks guys for the comments, after reading these and thinking on it I am wondering if my problems might be more of a illiotibial band thing, gonna look into it a bit more and perhaps see a physio (when i can fit it in...still at work now which is eating into my running time arrrrrrgh!)...thanx tho

I've had shin splint pain higher up towards the knee - but still on the inside of the shin.

You can tell 'shin splints' freckle if the shinbone is tender / painful to the touch

    Re: Todays Injuries

Thanks Zoot...in that case I think it may not be shin splints as although i do get some pain in the shin area, the pain seems to eminate more from the knee moving downwards, with pain goin down the stairs at times and sometimes difficulties extending the lower leg up from the knee with a sharp pain at times when I attempt this, however the shin itself is not tender to the touch.....i realise for some the question may have appeared a bit basic but i do appreciate your thoughts thank you i think perhaps my descriptive powers at times are lacking!.....

    todays injury...... well.....

I guess technically it's not an injury although at the time it was bl00dy painful although I'm sure much merriment will be had at my expense

running down a steep slope today with dying bracken and thistles mixed in I stood on a large dying thistle as I took my foot of it is sprang back like a catapult. the pain was instantaneous and would not stop, I looked down and there embedded in my crotch was about 100 needles I had to stand there looking like I rode a hundred miles bare back until I'd pulled them all out one by one.

    I felt such a pr..k
well a lot more than one actually.

Twisted knee. No swelling, just pain in and around back of knee.

Can still walk, hobble, can't really balance on one leg with it.

Hoping rest will cure it for the weekend.

Nearly sliced the end of my index finger off fixing my bike. Not sure how I have done it, but didn't even realise it was cut for a while, until the blood started coating all the parts
