Please fellow fellrunners could you please give me some inclination as to how other fellrunning clubs pick there club championship races.
We have a massive calendar of races to choose from nowadays and I was wondering how other clubs settled on what races that they include in there championships each year.
Its hard to get the right combination
So your thoughts please ?
At our club...the open mens and womens champion, plus all the vet champs get to decide what races get chosen.
How exactly im not sure, at a guess they maybe get to pick a race each?
I know our captain really makes sure all the races are fair...so not all the races are 'A's to mix it all up and give everybody a chance of bagging some points.
As in....the may be an amazing climber who would beast everyone if it was all 'A' cat races.....but throwing some B's and maybe C gives those who are better at flat out speed to get some points.
This is probably the same with most/all club?

You get a points percentage of winners time.
At the end of the year you count your top 10 scores to get a points tally out of 1000.
that way you cna races which suit your style.
We also run a clubs champ day(last week end) where you race every one over a rough course only announced the week before.

Our club (Rossendale) seems to have give up on a fell championship as no-one did em.Theres more interest in the mid-week series and the Run the Moors thing. A few years ago our fell sec. picked all the races he could do in the year, including the Manx mountain marathon............
As an all-round club we have a 12 race club Champs that incorporates some fell & trail races to the road races - usually 3 or so.
This year it was Stanhill, Rivington and Darwen Gala.
My reasoning was to support our local race organisers.
We also have Blackburn Winter Warmer 10K, Roddlesworth Roller, Chorley 4, Chorley Park, Horwish 5, Accy 10K ...
So you can see how we are helping our neighbouring clubs.
One year it was probably quite important to the Darwen Gala as we had a large proportion of the entrants ,as we did at Stanhill, so at least it helps keep local races going.
I've not been in my club (Glossopdale) very long, but the last few years there have been some road races mixed in by ranking everyone's best 10K, half and full marathon times, to complement the fell races selected at a club meeting.
Hmm some interesting ideas here. I like the Dark Peak one.
The problem I have is trying to fit in family and orienteering with fell and MMs and doing DoE at school.
It is very frustrating to miss races and points.
Presume it is quite a bit more work for the statistician though
Maybe we can try and talk mick into throwing in a dark peak style random race sometime.
At the Bowland "do" (usually mid January) a sheet of paper gets passed around and each club member writes down 3 short, 3 medium & 3 long races that he/she would like to have in the club champs. One of the club luminaries then tots up the 3 shorts, 3 mediums & 3 longs with the most nominations. Very simple & straightforward and it encourages people to get along to the "do". The secret is to get your 'wishes' written down early-on and hopefully have others follow your lead.

I don't think so, race results come in and he copies it in to a spreadsheet. tand it automatically brings up the % time.
If you go to the local league results page you can see how you did in every race and compare your results with another runner/class/race etc
click on a runner to see how they did in all there races.
