    Re: Todays Injuries

Just fell off my bike and re-opened a gash that had just healed which I got on the fell running navigation course on the same knee that I had earlier that week fallen onto a stone on whilst running and had swelled to twice the size. It's a hat trick. Can I be excused a knee injury for a few months please?

My knee is not a pretty sight generally...kind of knobbly and misshapen (no it wasn't always like that!) but I like to think it adds character especially when seen just below the hem of a nice dress.

    Re: Todays Injuries

Made the serious, and very stupid, mistake of attempting to long-jump last night .
Result: Fernando Torres type injury which has put me out of the Burley Bridge Hike tomorrow, and probably out of Pendle too. But am I downhearted? Hell, yes.

    Sorry to hear Tussockface.

If I could share in some of your downheartedness I was hoping to break my fell racing duck at Boulsworth on Sunday, have been looking forward to it for a while with much enthusiasm but was brought to a crippling halt on a training run last night.

Started feeling really uncomfortable after a couple of miles then sudden pain to the left of my leg just above the ankle.

X-rayed this afternoon with suggested stress fracture but has to be confirmed at fracture clinic monday.

Could possibly be on crutches for the amount of time I've actually been running. Probably too much too soon.

Totally miffed will miss the race and very little entusiasm left at the mo

Chubbs, these things come and go. The miffedness will probably increase until Sunday, peak at the time of the race, and then start to subside. By next Tuesday you'll be starting to focus on your next target, which (having been thwarted this time) you'll approach with even more grit and determination! Once you have the diagnosis, you'll start setting yourself fresh timescales.

It's hard to be knocked out before your first race.
Let us know how things go on Monday, and good luck with the rehab. Hope to see you when you finally make your debut.

    Any news, Chubbs?

I'm jogging again after my adductor strain. Managed a mile slow jog on the flat last night, and am going out now to try 2/3 miles at an easy pace. If I don't get a reaction I'll try a couple of small hills tomorrow and a few more on Thursday. By that time I should know if it's worth heading to Pendle on Saturday or not.

    Hi Tussockface.

Went to fracture clinic Monday. Could not see anything conclusive on the x-rays so left leg has been put in plaster from knee down and have been given calliper/crutchy type thingys. Now have to await an appointment for a bone scan involving injections and dyes allowing for a much clearer diagnosis. Follow-up appointment in December

Got over the self-pity now, could be a lot worse. Just struggling with the frustration/debilitation of crutches but mainly the prospect of not being able just go for a run and escape all the toss-pottery on the box. I'M A FELLRUNNER - Get Me Out of Here!

On the bright side with all this hopping about on crutches I rule on the single right-legged squats

Diagnoses are often protracted, multi-stage affairs. In fact, I suspect the intention is to draw things out as long as possible so that whatever it is that's gone wrong has time to right itself before anyone has to commit themselves to saying what they think it is.
    All the best.
