Right...i is off to read bed time stories in the chez freckle, my little one is obsessed with billy goats gruff, unfortunately we lost the book so we have been accessing various versions online...her particular favourite is this hip hop version which in a very tenous way could be regarded as "poetry"......its quite amusing anyway.....

Freckle that link is bl***dy fantastic - got me rolling around the floor in fits of laughter. I taught infants many moons ago and the BGGruff was a staple. If only I'd had a Hip Hop version then.

So are any of you dudes up for a fellrunning rap?:

    So like i said...
I got inov8s on my feet
ain't got time, gotta keep to the beat,
gotta keep on pounding to the top,
ain't no way I'm gonna stop...

I say, 'Hey Dude' get outta my way!
gonna blitz this mountain, whatja say?
    Gotma High5, that's ma gel
Gonna get to the top of this F'ing fell!!!

Ok, ok, more hip-replacement than hip hop - but FUN

Nice one XRunner. Us young(ish) bucks know when to stand down to the old stag. How can we follow that?

    Re: Today's poet

The fog that had sat over the country for days, disrupting both airports and motorways was lying dismally too upon a grey Glenridding. It was one of those dull days when it is tempting just to stay at home by the fire, dreaming of summer adventures and longer daylight hours. But I’d dragged myself from the house, so I decided somewhat half heartedly to go for the summit. Climbing higher, the fog thickening; definitely no prospect of views today. On a steep bend on the rocky track, a weak ray of sun took me by surprise. By the drystone wall the temperature was definitely rising, and at a knoll it appeared: the magnificent east face of Helvellyn looking positively alpine, complete with cornice and snow-filled gullies. The most unlikely view I could have envisaged even a hundred feet lower. Only at the summit did the full splendour of the vista become apparent. An absolutely perfect temperature inversion. The cloud lying a thousand feet below, spreading to every horizon, with only the bare tops of Lakeland’s highest mountains rising above, positively inviting me to recall their names; Skiddaw, Blencathra, High Street, Fairfield, Coniston Old Man, Scafell, Gable. A crow sat, with not a breath of wind to soar on, apparently enjoying the view and taking in the warming sun from the clearest sky. “I’ve lived round here for 24 years” a solitary walker announced, “and I’ve never seen anything as amazing as this”. I had to agree. It looked like you could skim stones on the white blanket below. Dropping down the zigzags on Glenridding Common, was like walking down a beach into the sea. I wanted to hold my breath as the cloud enveloped me again. I wouldn’t be seeing the sun again today. This day, that promised little early on, will stay with me for a very long time.

I like it HHH. Really atmospheric, if you'll excuse the pun.

    First draft, very rough....

    Sophie

    My bairn
    My little orator
    Before you could talk
    You conversed in the art
    Of blowing raspberries!
At 18 months you stunned nanna
With your recital of “The owl and the pussycat”
So, I stood up my bonnie lass
When one day the words came out gobbledigook.

One minute bouncing up and down
    On ma and da’s bed
The next lying on the sofa
    A mottled translucence
    "Eee look at those sausages"
Except they were uncle Dave's fingers

In an hour in a hospital bed
No words then, no chitter chatter
    Little noises, heavy laden eyes.
    A night of uncertainty
Mottles morphing into ghastly ink spots
    In ever increasing numbers
I looked at your limbs wondering if
    They would always be there.

    Then an unlikely saviour arrives
With his posse of ashen faced helpers
A man whose eloquence, unlike you my pet
    Was not his strong point
    Blunt yet exquisitely logical
He pronounced that action was now needed.
Then the strange and painful little worms
Were fed with difficulty into your beautiful veins
    And the fight began

Three days and three nights you lay
Moaning and cursing in your fathers arms
Your little “pea in a pod”
Mam nursed a new born sis
    Trying not to think....the unthinkable

    Eventually the lesions faded
A few little craters remind us
Inanother 3 weeks you walked again

And now...What of you now my little darling?
    All age six of you?
Well, now, what bliss, we can’t get a word in edgeways!

Don't you dare change a word freckle, that's so very lovely and straight from the heart and it made me both want to cry and smile simultaneously.
