I was driven here by curiosity
I'll warn you if I can
That my limericks don't always scan
And my rhyming borders on spuriosity

OK Hes and Harry. You asked for it.

What makes an American dog tick?
For a start, not a limerick.
But he'll be happy all day
    If allowed to play
    With the Devil's walking stick.

bit like a fell race this.....I was there at the start, but finished after the prize giving!

And Hes - what are you doing here? It's before midnight!

On the subject of Limericks, here's my favourite, by Spike Miligan. This may have already been posted - I can't be bothered trawling through the thousands of posts. It goes something like (apologies for inaccuracies):

There was a young man from Siberia
Who as a father was rather inferior
    A quick operation
    Resolved the situation
And now she's a Mother Superior

    Genius

Love it OW and the comment afterwards. I've been teaching a lot lately but I am back to 'working' at home today, thus a fair amount of procrastination and I may have to bury my laptop in the compost heap in order to resist the temptation to keep logging in here.

    Running

    by Jennifer Rivera Sanchez

    Running is in your blood
    every time things come about
your ready to go silent not one shout
cry a little and than all gone
    running is in your blood
you feel it makes you stronger
it labels you much more as a coward
never face up to what's right
    never put up a fight
not for the things you love
    nor the things you believe
    enough is enough
when will your legs stop racing
    so fast there's no tracing
so much hearts love for you
all you do is make them blue
    not admitting your scared
    starting over is easier
until the day you seek your truth
running will always be a part of you
and every time you find that one
    your running has just begun

I am uncertain about the lack of punctuation...is it good for this poem?

Awesome... challenge accepted and mastered... chapeau - as they say in France!

At first I didn't understand this poem, then I re read it and now I find it very moving...i think it highlights that as wonderful as running is emotionally, spritually and physically it can also sometimes represent an avoidance of something very painful, something difficult to bear emotionally (perhaps i overanalyse?)...at least that was my interpretation...now that you point it out i did find the punctation a little distracting...

thankyou x runner for posting such a thought provoking poem
