    Freckle, your wintery offerings are wonderful and have me excited about returning in January to some cold weather and frosty runs (I do hope it doesn't just keep on raining).

    Near Winter

    Let winter now come

    ox-laden sky
    cold spume of rivers
    nakedness of moors
    mist in the forest
    let winter now come

    the spoor of animals
    blue melting in the snow
    th sun polished hard
    birds and berries
    bronzen shadow
    water icy and thin
    black crust of the earth
    hoar glint of stone
    let winter now come

    seaweed covers the moon
    wind harrows the firth
    the islands glint in fog
    I fish in cold waters
    my boat black as tar
    the horned rowlocks
    creak to the oar

    let winter now come
    "Let winter now come" says her who's flying off to the sun for a month!

    Seaweed covering a reflected moon is a lovely image.

    Ha ha! Sorry, haven't got my head round that bit yet and anyway, I may not get let in that this rate. I am thinking of heading up to the himalayas so I will see some wintery weather but that is if I don't get enticed down to the coast and get stuck there.

    Tell you what...let winter now come on the 8th January...is that fair?

    I do hope you get in ok. I like your idea of an itinery. Get to the airport, see which way the wind is blowing, and follow it.

    I'd love to see the Himalayas. One day I'm sure I will.

    We'll keep Winter at bay until the 8th for you.

    Evening all!!!!....hope you are gud! i am on a high after a great training session at the poly....gawd almighty i love runnng!....anyhow back to winter....or should i say its passing (not to wish the time or season away like but i liked the following.....)

    Thaw

    OVER the land half freckled with snow half-thawed
    The speculating rooks at their nests cawed,
    And saw from elm-tops, delicate as a flower of grass,
    What we below could not see, Winter pass.

    Glad you had a good session Freckle. I did a time trial yesterday which went ok but made me realise how much harder I want to train next year.

    This is one of my favourites by Edward Thomas, thanks.

    You and me both...I always run out with the fast guys in the club and a fast lady and I am usually 10-15 metres behind by the end of each effort but it is really great training and I know I'm pushing myself. They are such a good bunch as well, they always loop back and collect any stragglers during the rest periods.
